Is he a trap rapper? I don't typically like trap beats. But it MIGHT be an exception.
Don't really know why we're posting here, but sure.
>>69298672
Fantastic chart. Probably the best taste I've seen on /mu/.
>>69298746
nah, he's not a part of that whole meme rap/trap sound
hes an experimental memphis hip hop artist, works with these jazzy beats and dark and intense vocals/lyrics

This is cringe.

Good taste too.

Been meaning to check that one out.
>>69299196
lol you have issues
>>69299259
I wouldn't agree but Olivia Tremor Control barely qualifies as even neo-psychedelia. They were trying their hardest to sound like the old stuff without innovating. It's mainly just a mish-mash of old tropes from the classics. lol
>>69299576
Olivia Tremor Control is 60s psych pop through a neo-psych lens, in the same sense that Tame Impala is 60s psych rock through the same lense. OTC improved upon the sound.

Fall Put Boy - Folie A Deux
>>69300079
While you're absolutely correct and I appreciate it, I don't really need your help. Being an inadvertent troll is quite entertaining, especially considering how many other people that frequently post charts have just as much /mu/ shillings as I do, yet going after me gives them some sense of accomplishment.
>>69300143
>the whole point of the chart is frequently discussed albums, not quality.
>pic related
>>69300143
Frequently discussed albums are usually frequently discussed because a lot of people find value in them, or they have interesting qualities... I don't understand what point you are trying to make.
I'm not insulting people who look into deeper, more obscure music. I'm insulting people who think that there is something wrong with enjoying /mu/core. My whole point is that people can enjoy whatever the hell they want, be it /mu/core, obscure shit, whatever. But if they are only listening to obscure music to feel better about themselves, and to feel superior to people who openly enjoy /mu/core, then they are fags.
>>69300311
Thank God, I'm not the only one that posts here with this mindset. I like you, anon.
>>69299738
It didn't do any improving. I've played their songs to people and they always say something along the lines of, "So this is one of The Beatles' lesser tracks?"
Stop justifying your opinion just because admitting you prefer The Beatles is too mainstream.

I've loved BTBAM and Mastodon for years before I knew what 4chan was. I was a Grimes fan before coming on here. Guys on a prog Facebook group turned me onto Radiohead years before and I was already a King Crimson fan at that point. I listened to Sunbather when it came out. I was already a Kanye fan and people comparing Yeezus to Death Grips turned me onto them which, in turn, lead me to /mu/. Literally the only album in my Top 10 that I took from this site was Strawberry Jam.

No I'm saying that because Schlippenbach is really bad. Why do you think I care about how obscure they are?
>>69301420
How the fuck is Schlippenbach bad? I'm intrigued.
>>69301463
He constantly tries to make up for being a bad improviser by mixing post-bop flair to his solos which really just do not work in the context of his trio work at least, I think he lags behind Evan and Paul in terms of exploration and creativity in the trio.
Although I will admit I haven't heard much solo work of his.
>It's another GrimesCuck derails the thread with his shitty taste anx opinions episode..
>>69301548
If you're referring to Pakistani Pomade, I think it's obvious that Evan Parker steals the show throughout the majority of the record and Paul Lovens is no slack either, but I disagree with your thoughts on Schlippenbach. I think he adds flavour to the mix and I've yet to hear a more bonechilling example of free jazz.

>>69301921
As far as this track goes, I'm not feeling enough cohesion amongst the instrumentation, but I'm really enjoying the cacophonous strings. The musicianship is admirably tight overall, but it's not that brooding of an atmosphere, imo.
>>69302283
Well the lack of cohesion comes with the breakdown of the jazz idiom (as with free jazz in general). I'm not quite sure what you mean by the brooding aspect then?
Rec me up, wolfgang.

>>69302383
>reads Scaruffi once
>>69302351
I'm saying that the instruments aren't cohesive with one another; they don't really build off each other (save the last couple minutes of the track). I understand that a lack of overall cohesion is the point of free jazz, but there isn't as much of an emotional display translated through the instruments as there would be on a track off of Pakistani Pomade. It's not eerie or aggressive, it's kinda just... there. Or maybe I'm overthinking it.
>>69302485
>sees TMR
>hurr! scruffy-drone!
Recs would be cool, will try to rec where i can
gona lazy post cuz i wana take a nap
>>69302485
His chart isn't Scaruffi-core at all.
>>69302491
I suppose one could argue that the cohesion is meant to be made by listening to each individual player rather than the collective as with the same way people recommend to help understand free jazz. I personally feel the sax and cello play off each other but maybe not the piano, really depends on your view.
The emotional display could very well be of the chaos within the piece, but free jazz is highly subjective in taste since absolute free expression allows a clear divide in likability for each person.
>>69302583
>free jazz is highly subjective in taste since absolute free expression allows a clear divide in likability for each person
