/r/burial is already gushing about how great this release is. Yes, really.

Remove the hiss and crackle from these tracks and you're left with some synth noodling and vocal cut-ups. How could this be the best material he's produced in THREE YEARS? It's so incredibly lazy, I'm honestly shocked this was actually released.

Young Death is something he has already done better before. The vocal samples and crackles occasionally intrude too much on the music, which is a problem I had with some parts on Rival Dealer.

Nightmarket is an interesting direction but doesn't end up going anywhere. Parts of it remind me of Arca.

Overall I give it 6/10. His exploration of more ambient textures is sabotaged by falling back on old habits that have grow stale by now. I hope the next release drops the cheese and typical Burial cliches while going in a darker direction.

The crackle and hiss were nowhere near as prevalent and forward in the mix on Untrue as they are on this release (and Rival Dealers before it). It's gone from being something he used fairly subtly, to being practically half of the tune. Literally half of the mix on these songs is fucking hiss and crackle. It's preposterous.

At least on the Rival Dealers tunes he was composing music. Young Death and Nightmarket are, composition-wise, nothing but meandering noodling.

Shit man, I have one tattoo and it's the Hyperdub logo with Untrue's catalog number underneath it. So suffice to say I'm a pretty big Burial.

But goddamn this is disappointing. Oh well, at least I only found out these songs existed this morning so it's not like there was a long lead up of hype to get disappointed over.

But regardless it's a huge fucking bummer that *this* is all he has to offer off 3 years off. There is nothing going on in either of these goddamn tracks. There's no beat, no structure, nothing. It's generic ambient music, which I love when done right, but this isn't. It's just....there.

What's the point of these? If they were a couple transitory tracks off an LP, okay maybe I'd get it, but on their own merit they offer pretty much absolutely nothing.

Burial's last good release was Truant/Rough Sleeper. Everything leading up to it was an evolution in his sound and then Rival Dealer didn't bring anything new. Temple sleeper was just lazy. I hope these are fakes because if the quality stays on this downward slide it's just sad.

Lambeth is an old tune, one of his truly great dubs.
Rival Dealer is just rave nostalgia vomit, the other two tunes on it aren't even worth talking about. Unlike his other stuff, it's not something new, it's something you should've heard countless times before.
Temple Sleeper is one for the heads, as you might say it. It's much in the vein of his earlier productions, even if the over-reliance on that trance sample is a bit silly. It also feels like an old tune.
