ITT: albums that were ahead of their time
Ahead of it's time in looking back at an earlier time
>>69282552
In what way do you think that album is ahead of its time OP? Just curious.
>>69282552
maybe 3 years ahead of its time but its not that much. Has an old grungey sound to it
>>69282673
It foreshadowed the loud soft dynamic shifts that grunge would use to death, its muddled yet pretty sound was pretty influential on shoegaze, and at times it almost sounds like proto-emo, if that makes sense
>>69282689
Agreed. I love Dinosaur Jr. but they're not necessarily progressive musically.
Ahead of its time and ahead of our time forever
also this
>>69282552
Check this out OP, has the same vibe as ylaom, there isn't a song you would skip on this album as well.
>>69282689
much more atmospheric than that, influenced shoegaze just as much as grunge. also had that "bittersweet" sound of being pretty heavy and noisy at times, but also kinda psychedelic and pop-oriented, like pixies and what came to be of indie and alternative rock in general
but yeaj I wouldn't agree that it's ahead of its time necessarily, as it was in fact released at the same time bands like sonic youth and husker du were laying the foundations for what was to come in the 90s anyway
>>69282552
when did their debut release? the album Dinosaur released 1985 but i cant seem to find what month or day. i've been doing this pretty autistic thing this year where i listen to albums on the day they were released
>>69282552
Nah I'd say it's pretty appropriate for it's time
Good album though

>YOU TROY TO UNDASTAND WOT SHE'S TROYING TO SAY
>>69282575
That's a good way to put it
This could have come out in 2012 and wouldn't have sound out of place
>>69282552
agreed
>>69282552
Lol literally how?
It's dadrock mixed with Metallica sung by a nihilstic Neil Young. How does that precede anything?
(one of my favourite albums of all time, btw)
>>69283292
It sounds like it could have came out at least a few years ahead of when it did
>>69283231
I'd have to say Chairs Missing sounds even more ahead of its time than Pink Flag does.
>>69282552
poledo is arguably more ahead of its time than any other track on this album
>>69282575
agreed. great album though
>>69282552
It's 3 to 5 years ahead of its time. That's a lot, tho.
>>69283839
the fact the album has poledo along with the other more consistent songs makes me love it
>>69282552
>tfw pioneered and established several major genres in indie rock and underground music just by existing.
