One of these albums really doesn't belong there.
It's Born Sinner. J Cole is yet to release a classic album. He has a couple classic mixtapes though.
>>
>>69280866
Well like I said I was just going by albums I personally like.
I thought the beats on the album were incredible. But yeah, I can see why it stands out lesser compared to the others.

>>
>where do I start with rap?
With one of the people who has brought up the most artists, who is the most prolific, dictates an entire city and is the king of a genre, Gucci Mane
>>
>>69280987
>You could choose literally any rapper
>You go with gucci mane

....Is he REALLY that good?

Yes, he absolutely is that good. Everybody rapper owes something to Gucci
>>
>>69281014
Gucci Mane is the most influential rapper alive and released the best rap song of the year.

>>69280971
I felt like I should include some white rappers, i don't know why.

>>69281015
This is a pretty fantastic chart though. Use this OP.

I'm guessing you mean newer rappers. But either way I doubt EVERY newer rapper owes him something.

>>69281039
He himself has pretty good flow. Beat is shit tho.
>>
>>69281093
Well don't fuckin use eminem. We're trying to get him to LIKE rap. Use beastie boys or something.

unironically came here to post this. Gucci is the best introduction to modern rap music
>>
>>69281099
>Beat is shit tho.
You're crazy. That's probably one of Mike Will's top 5 beats ever.

> I doubt EVERY newer rapper owes him something.
You'd be wrong. Gucci talks alot about enemies these days but every s right now.

just listen to it
>>
>>69281164
Again. Hate the beat. I don't like trap beats. He needs to hire better producers.

But again, can't hate his flow, he's pretty good.
>>
>>69281015
This is quite dreadful to be honest, GKMC doesn't lead on to Aquemini, the list of Exmilitary > Yeezus > Days Before Radeo is basically in reverse order, pop rap is just thrown around because clearly there isn't a lane for popular music at all.

This is not a good way of trying to get people into a certain sounds, ideally the chart would be a square of "east coast" "west coast" "southern" "experimental" and gradually, as each sound overlaps, they begin merging together and reaching different extremes and fusions.
>>
>>69281164
how many rappers do you guys recognize? i see

I love this chart but...

>He needs to hire better producers.

He literally has the best producers right now that will give him beats for free. But if you don't like trap you won't like much of Gucci's music, he's knows as the Trap God.

I still love the old insane Gucci.

This was the song that almost made him break out into the mainstream until he got sent to prison and set him back.

Pretty much what these anons said. If you were to look at rap as a whole and asked who would be the best fit to define what it meant to be a "rapper" it would be Gucci Mane without a doubt.
>>
>>69281295
Isn't he friends with half of the guys he says are "his children"?

How did they feel about him saying this stuff?

>>69281325
Bro I can imagine him working well on a g funk beat. I just don't get the whole trap beat appeal.
>>
>>69281369
well most modern rappers will name Gucci as their number one influence so i guess they recognize that he is right
>>
>>69281369
>How did they feel about him saying this stuff?

To the new generation of rappers, Gucci is pretty much their idol. Half of them are from Atlanta and the other half are heavily Atlanta influenced and nothing goes through Atlanta without Gucci seeing to it. Gucci himself is probably the most supportive rapper of the new generation out there too, he's never called a young rapper shit and will collab with all of them. He just put out a mixtape with Uzi Vert yesterday. Hell in this video Thug sounds like a puppy that just saw his owner coming back from Iraq.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVGdUasknWg
>>
>>69281451
So he didn't mean "his children" in a condescending way? It kinda came off that way in the song.
>>
>>69281498

>>
>>69281498
Nope, Gucci loves his kids and probably has at least one song with all of them.

He's #1 with Rae Sremmurd right now after all.
>>
>>69281544
Alright. Thanks for clarifying.

>>69281531
The beats are good!!
>>
>>69280824
Begin and end with Snoop's Doggystyle. No other rap album is required to get the full experience of the entire genre of rap
>>
>>69281690
Another good opinion ITT. Doggystyle is a classic

Yung lean - Unknown memory

Eminem the best selling artist of this generation shouldn't be included? also one of the most technically skilled rappers.

Anyone got any similar artists to Kevin Gates?

I just got into him, Kanye, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar HARD. Any rappers with amazing tracks like them?
>>
>>69280862
literally
>>
>>69282274
Gates is Louisiana, Baton Rouge, the one most like him is Boosie, but they don't get along, and I think Boosie's better anyway. Life After Deathrow's such a great record.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAALDwpz4Hw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DCEHQDIyGE

NBA Youngboy's another Baton Rogue rapper. Their accent sounds really great over beats, most of them actually are street people though so don't have big careers. Kevin Gates is in jail right now, and Boosie vowed never to set foot in Louisiana again because the state's government hates him so much.

Oh, I nerded hard and know all about Gates. Hard to find his earlier shit in decent quality though haha if you know of a good source for HQ rap stuff I'd appreciate it.

I'll check Boosie and Youngboy now. Someone said Travis Scott but the few songs I listened to didn't do shit for me.

>Well don't fuckin use eminem. We're trying to get him to LIKE rap
>Eminem is a rapper
>he's one of the best at it
>has hundreds of thousands of fans that never listened to rap and he was their gateway
>but listening to him makes people hate rap.
lol, I love it was people hate on Em, it's like they're mad that a white guy is one of the best players in a black sport.

You also have never listened to "It's Okay" if you think it should be taken off the list.
>>
I'm mainly looking for songs to bump in my car.

Big Daddy Kane
KRS-ONE
Rakim
Biggie
Nas
Eminem
Kendrick
J Cole

That should cover most of the generations of rap, really. Maybe listen to like Young MA and other trap artists to get into new-age rap. But older stuff was better, imo.
>>
>>69280938
this is a decent starter playlist for someone whos never really listened to rap before. I approve.
>>
>>69282674
KRS-One is absolutely essential, gonna back this anon
