still have chiastic slide, exai, elseq, and draft to listen to in terms of albums

if i loved quaristice, untilted, oversteps, and confield(in that order) the most, is draft the next logical choice? im leaning towards either that or elseq because i loved the few songs i heard so far but the 4 hour commitment is not in me rn

also i played plyphon to two of my friends who kinda liked it which was surprising

Don't wanna jinx it, but honestly I'm expecting a new album by late 2017 or early 2018. Apparently they sat on the elseq stuff for a bit (it did come from their '14/'15 sets after all) and their methods and the way they produce allows them to crank out shit in a pretty timely manner.

Added to the fact that they now have a platform to expedite the release process (bleepstores), I anticipate a new project relatively soon. Of course they could decide to take a break or something.

DID YOU KNOW?

Several Autechre albums have been released with japan-only tracks over the years.

Autechre is my favorite group. I dwelled in two concerts, put up with a bullet hole in a motel room, and have 2 dozen physical copies. I still didn't know this, and it kinda pissed me off the other day.

LISTEN TO AUTECHRE'S JAPAN-ONLY BONUS TRACKS!

1. If you have a ton of time: Chronological albums including EPs/Singles (best option)

You've come to the right artist
You'll probably like pretty much everything they've put out after Tri Repetae. As you move forward their albums get less accessible, peaking with Confield-Draft7.30-Untilted, and then get a bit more accessible

Honestly the best way to do it is to just go forward from Tri Repetae, listening to EP's as well as albums. Tri Rep is kind of their turning point, before that they were mostly doing pretty standard ambient techno

Here's some tracks to show you what you're in for...

V-Proc (from Draft 7.30)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x3WRQPDgvo

Cichli (from Chiastic Slide)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m4jOwrVOPQ

Dropp (from EP7)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWGUnrIiOoI

Eggshell is just classic. Not a lot of IDM from that period seems like it has this degree of crafstmanship and subtlety in the composition. Squarepusher relies a lot on technical wizardry to achieve complex compositions, same with VSnares and the like. RDJ is praised for having "classical" attributes, but his compositions are actually very simple, and usually have no clear progression. He alternates melodies and phrases such that it is a "cohesive medley" (amon tobin's the same way, as long as we're namedropping classic IDM trendsetters). But Eggshell has this real, varied, emotive composition that is so different for electronic music. It's almost like it was written by king crimson or something. Coil did some similar stuff on Backwards, but that's the only other electronic music I know of that has compositions which are themselves interesting, and do not RELY on sound design as a compositional tool.

I respect autechre and know autechre of course more for their twisted, anstract alien autal lanscapes, but these more structured pieces are fasinating. They conquered IDM songwriting as soon as it began, and no one has touched it with that degree of maturity since, to my knowledge.

what planet do you live on f3m?
>>
>>69288506
thats not what i said my dude, i said confield draft and untilted was their most inaccessible era. after that they became more accessible, is that false in any way? quaristice has such short and varied tracks its easier to get into, oversteps is obviously more accessible, exai, some of the tracks on there you could play them at a normie party and get away with it. elseq, yeah maybe

What the fuck happened
>>

>>69243812
The career of Manchester-based disc-jockeys Sean Booth and Rob Brown, better known as Autechre (22), actually comprised two careers. The first one was about dance music whose beat had been deformed and suppressed, melted into a watery substance and emptied of its narrative content, but was still relatively warm and organic. The smooth and detached tones of Incunabula (1993), perhaps the most austere and implacable album in the history of dance music, coined a new form of ultra-minimal techno that was expanded on the more colorful Amber (1995), insinuating those minimal/artificial sounds in the most obscure orbits of the subconscious, and on the more claustrophobic Tri Repetae (1996), that resorted to metallic sounds and subsonic frequencies. These works were inspired by Steve Reich's minimalism, Kraftwerk's robotic trance, and Brian Eno's ambient music, but their emotional content (if any) was radically different. Chiastic Slide (1997) was the dividing line, the discontinuity that caused a phase shift. The menacing texture of digital beats, repetitive noises and dejected melodies mutated into alien beings with a life of their own. Autechre's second career, best represented by LP5 (1998) and Confield (2001), was about dissonance, icy ambience, irregular rhythm and non-linear development. Both careers were characterized by austere, meticulous and intricate sound design. Autechre's tracks often seemed to be labyrinthine mirages: the closer one went, the more lost one felt.

Andy is my favourite Jenkinson brother
>>
>>69292851
I thought he was slowly coming back to the fold with that Dark Steering track, but the most recent album was a joke.

Though tbf I've always thought his discog was a mixed bag, I don't even care for Ultravisitor that much, bit too wanky for me.
Still MIORN, FMWT, Big Loada and Go Plastic are all GOAT.

no one has done as much to propel dank meme culture forward as Andy Jenkinson has. he's a true tastemaker, and as much a revolution as he is an icon in dank subculture.

This kekker beat me to it, kek. I WARNED U BRO

INFO, you probably all knew already but I didn't. I just came from a record store which now has the first three albums' re-issues in stock, on vinyl. As I've had CD copies for over a decade, I won't be getting any of these, but they're out. Since each album is on the order of 70+ minutes, each item comprises two platters. Amber's cover looks very pink. Each appears to have the identical original selections, however each catalog number is modified slightly to have a new "R" at the end. The sticker on Tri Repetae (it being vinyl, of course) reports the item as being "complete with surface noise".

ITEM OF PERSONAL INTEREST: This instance of Amber is interesting to me for a few reasons. Amber was my first Autechre album, and the copy I've had for over fifteen years (it's in my lap atm) is a Wax Trax CD. Warp's dedicated re-issue (its cover, anyway) differs from the above instance with which I am obviously more familiar, in that the lettering is smaller (relative to the photo, more area to work with of course), and the lettering is like this silver-foil stuff, as opposed to the flat white of my instance.

Furthermore, the warp re-issue /actually gives photo credit for an English-sounding man (an individual, as opposed to TDR) who actually took the notable cover photograph/; this photo credit is stupidly absent from my old Wax Trax copy, being mentioned neither. I didn't make a point of memorizing the name but now I'm going to check again sometime.

I've had Amber all these years and only very recently did I realize that the photo is of a specific hillside in central Turkey.

RELEVANT TO /MU/: all three re-issues have stickers advertising codes inside to access another live set as a bonus track. All three re-issues refer to the same one live set/track in this scheme (and not three new live sets, say). I can only assume that this is distinct from the recent LIVE album-dump, but I haven't verified this.

*being mentioned neither on the album art/liner notes, nor even being printed on the CD itself.

Haswell was bonkers. I was near the front and he was swigging a bottle of champagne and shouting at the audience. Gamble and Maddocks impressed me. Crowd was noticeably more obnoxious than when I saw them in manc in 2010. Lot more fit women though.
