Saw one in GC, didn't play it though. How does it sound? Looks sick as fuck desu
>>
>>69235320
I enjoy it. I've never owned a guitar with the vintage style frets (they're fucking tiny) so that's taken some getting used to. But the sound is sick. Cool out of phase sounds when you split the humbucker and put the switch in the middle position. Very versatile

I have a budget of about 250€ for my first steelstring acoustic and was thinking of buying this.
https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_custom_line_cla_15mce.htm

Thoughts?
>>
>>69235395
see, I got it from a weird thrift shop that was selling it and an Airline 2p. I picked the T&C because I didn't want people to think I was trying to be Jack White (it was red and white). But I love the body shape of the 1p, 2p, and 3p models. How is it treating her?

The out of phase sounds are generally unusable, but my band plays some funk-esque stuff sometimes. I also use it for really noisy solos because it does sound disgusting a lot of the time
>>
>>69235437
She likes it a lot actually, I was pretty shocked because they're single coils NOT humbuckers, I was tripping out when I found that out. She said it's really sparkly. I'm looking to grab the Jetsons Jr. red/white myself because well in the opposite vein I really want a Jack White inspired look heh. I was also thinking of just getting the white model.
>>
>>69235477
on the T&C, only the middle one is a humbucker. Considering switching to a 5-way switch to be more similar to the 3P. I was shocked when I found it out too. How much did she get it for?
>>
>>69235430
I'd never buy an acoustic guitar without playing it first
>>

On reverb for I think it was $650ish shipped with the hardshell case. It's one of the limited indigo blue runs too, number 13/24 if I remember. She also just got the marshall cab for a good deal, 450 cash (its a 1960 vintage 412 cab) so she was able to finally play through the Mesa for the first time a day or two ago.

You're just talking about chord contruction.
I can look at a chord on the staff and tell you what it is and use macro analysis to tell you its place in the piece.
Vertical harmony is not a very common way of describing that, but I'll take it.

Is it true flat wounds fuck up rosewood fingerboards than other boards? I'm sick of buying new rounds every month. I tried Ernie ball, ghs, dadarrio, rotosounds and fender. Some sound great but don't last long. Help me lads pls.
>>
>>69235995
Why would it?
Ideally the string rarely touches the fingerboard, most electric guitars today use jumbo frets.
Rosewood fretboards are unlacquered though, so they are susceptible to things that a heavily lacquered maple fretboard wouldn't be.

>>
>>69237598
This looks dodgy as fuck tbqh. Clearly looks like a 1x12/1x15 + tweeter but the 4 ohm + 400W fact make it pretty unlikely to be a 1x12. Plus I've never seen old ampegs with black grillcloth and no white lining. Also that's the old ass ampeg logo (big font, 70s-80s stuff) on some kind of sticker? the fuck is that? would not cop 100%

What's that mxr bass compressor like dude? I've been meaning to buy one but I have no stores nearby that stock it so I'm unable to try it.
>>
>>69237875
It's good, complex, and versatile.
The input/output is a little redundant. They could've made one knob and called it gain. That's the complexity of the pedal.
When switched on, there's a boost that acts almost like a pre-amp.
Good pedal. Many options out there for people with different budgets, this one I found to be above the rest. I chose MXR over the Seymour Duncan because you have more control.

I bought it off sweetwater, came the next day.

So far for sn amp I plan on buying a Fender blues Jr, but I'd like some pedal recommendation. So far I have a Vox wah and a Big Muff Pi for pedals, What would you guys recommend for me?

going to post my personal blog here, someone give a newfag some pointers please

i started lessons summer last year, have been working my way up. I can read simple sheet that stays at the top of the neck, and I started fingerpicking when I got bored of strumming once I realized it requires no effort
I bought the strat in nov. 2015, but never played it because I had bad fret buzz and other issues and I was too ignorant to understand how to fix it.

i got the lp just days ago, it got here looking like shit, and so I removed the strings and wiped the body and neck down. after that, i spent the last few days watching videos on guitar disassembly and maintenance, i never realized it was so simple.
up to this point, all i had ever done was change strings on the acoustic. so i took the strat clone and had my teacher show me everything about it after i had removed everything besides the neck, i honestly had no idea it was this easy.

i am not rich, but i am in a comfy position where i can spend at will, and also it isn't like i spent thousands on stuff when i barely know how to play - the strat was $64, the classical was $180 reduced from $250 after the neck fell off in the shop and I also got a case for free with it, i won an auction on the epiphone, and the acoustic was the gift that got me started

just wanted to ask, what do with the strat? i don't see the point in ever replacing it considering the parts are interchangeable. what can I do to make it nice for years to come? I've already cleaned it, i'm thinking of getting one of those loaded pickup kits where you only have to solder the input and back thingy where the springs are.
what do for the strat to make it a blast to play?
any of you have suggestions for someone who may as well say he has no experience on an electric?
>>
>>69241173

>>69241497

Anyone here play 10" and 12" radius guitars? How noticeable is the difference?

replace the nut with bone, buy a wilkinson steel block bridge for it, loaded pickguard is a good idea, replace the tuners with gotohs, polish the frets. That's about all you can do to it, probably less than $100 total.

If you happen to have a plastic shelving set like pic related, the shelves make great pedal boards. Lightweight, strong, plenty of space. The whole kit costs about $50 but you can get much smaller versions for less.

If you're a little more handy and don't mind doing some cuts with a jigsaw, get one piece of melamine, cut to desired size, cut holes to reduce weight, stick some rubber feet on the bottom.

You mean on your fretting hand? I use my fingertips, really no reason to ever use your thumb to mute imo.
>>
>>69242552
No, on the playing hand, sympathetic vibrations give out some unwanted extra noise so I mute it with my thumb. Using the fingertip's not physically possible unless I'm playing with the ring finger and pinky, which would make no sense.

I'm a man of finesse and delicacy, I'd much rather learn technique than rely on a trivial item

Snobbery aside, it's also because of limitations. Let's say I don't want the E to ring out, but want to embellish a chord with a high B I can't finger, I'll just use my B string for it, which I can't do with a hair-thing, which is why I don't like them, they're handy but they can't replace good muting technique.

Muting with the thumb isn't giving me much of an issue anyway, I'm just wondering if there's anything easier or better.

Newbie question incoming:
Today I went to my local guitar shop and played the most beautiful Jazzmaster ever, unfortunately it was 1800 bucks and I only have 400 on me right now.
Currently I have a shitty squire affinity Tele and some acoustic that sounds good but feels like its made out of plastic.
I don't want to be stuck with these guitars for another 2 years to save up for the Jazzy, but I also don't really want to give up the 400 i have now for a standard Squire Jazzy.
Should I buy the Squire and save up for the 1800 model later or continue saving up with the 400 i have now?

American.

Tune-o-matic bridge.

>>
>>69239326
is there a way to tell mexi-tele's from american by looking at the front?
>>
>>69244151
No, no again, and then no even more. ~$200 is the minimum for getting something at least playable that isn't going to have no sustain, shitty frets, and is impossible to keep in tune.

$400-500 is the sweet spot for a budget guitar. It'll have a neck that's pretty good and will play like a much more expensive guitar if you set it up/get it set up properly.

The reverb is nice and lush and the delay options are pretty standard, kind of like a DD-3. The options to combine them are immensely fun though.

Only problem is it does this weird signal cut when you turn it on while playing on some settings. I'm not sure if this happens with all reverbs honestly.

>1. What are the most trusted speaker cables for head -> cab

As with guitar cables, it doesn't make much difference. Check the connections your head has though. It could either be speakON connector or regular 1/4". If speakON you need to by speakON cables. If 1/4" make sure it's a cabinet cable. DO NOT USE guitar instrument cables to connect head to cab.

Make sure your head is correct wattage and resistance for the cab.

Your head will not be damaged by turning it on without a load (cab) connected unless it is a tube amp. In the case of tube heads, the damage does not occur right away if the cable cuts out. Meaning you would notice you're not getting any sound and have time to power down the head. Some (most?) tube heads have a fuse that would cut power in the event of this happening before any damage is done.

Solid state heads do not have this issue and can be used without load no problem. If you're recording for instance, you can just go SS head to audio interface to DAW.
>>
>>69245185

>>
>>69242231
That's real cute! I like it.
>>
>>69245698
The power supply is needed if you have more than five pedals or have pedals that need different voltage than the usual 9V. Daisy chain style power has some limitations on power draw and also noise level because of the ground loops it makes. Power supply solves all that and can be purchased separately for about forty or fifty buck, maybe a little cheaper if you find a sale on amazon or something.

The board can be made of anything. That doesn't matter so long as it works for your needs.

Squier has lousy tuning stability, really lousy pickups that are noisy even on the positions that should cancel the noise, and just overall doesn't feel that great to play. The MIM feels really nice to play and sounds great, but abusing the tremolo still messes up your tuning pretty quickly. That being said, the Squier is a playable instrument and I was ignorantly happy playing it until I got my MIM. Playing a bullet Strat has really given me perspective on how bad that shit can get, and Affinity isnt that horrible, although I still recommend springing for Classic Vibe or MIM.

I have to lie about how much it costs, spent about 15,000 on my drumkit but when people ask how much it was I just say 'a lot'

reguitared here, I haven't been playing very long but I know my basic shit and I'm really curious what guitarists get that really high noise

My grandfather willed me this guitar when he died. I dont play guitar or know much about them. What do you think its worth?
>>

That sounds like a pinch harmonic my dude, look it up. Or he's just bending a high note, It's honestly hard to tell

>>69247579

I've only broken like 4 cymbals in my career, I have modified my technique to only break sticks instead of cymbals. I once broke a €300 hi-hat top and was so sickened I actually stopped playing for about 5 years.

Nah. As long as it has separation between all the outlets on the power source the issue encountered with daisy chains is eliminated. A daisy chain plug creates a ground loop between every pedal in the chain, which, depending on uh reasons, may or may not cause a hum. I've been planning on buying a power source if and when I encounter hum or exceed the milliamp rating of my daisy chain but neither has happened yet.
>>
>>69246033
Thanks. The whole standup bass world is completely foreign to me.
>>
>>69247692
Holy moly! Your grandfather loved you, anon. You might want to have that appraised. If it's a rare version of the model it could be worth even more than the numbers already mentioned.
>>
>>69246033
Not really. You can practice UB technique on an EUB and while it'll never sound the same as a real upright (obviously) you still get a tone that is more similar to an upright than a fretless.
I don't see how it's the worst of both worlds.

...why do you have to lie though? I don't get that. You're an adult and it's your money, people waste shitloads of money on stupid stuff all the time, I just live very spartan, save up that money and buy nice instruments instead.
>>
>>69248654

My family is insane when it comes to spending money. My grandfather used to turn off the tv (while we were watching it) when he went out to the pub. I honestly dont get it myself, i guess my parents grew up poor and hate to spend money on anything that is not pure survival, even though our circumstances have changed.

>>69248521

I would not sell that under any circumstances.

A neighbour of mine died when I was a kid, I found his old marching snare drum in the attic of his abandoned house and it started my fascination with music. This thing is worth about a 1000 now at over 50 years old but I would never sell it because it has sentimenal value and it would hurt too much to part with it.

I can just imagine in the future after a global apocalypse wipes humanity out, some kid raids my house and finds my gear and it kindles a love of music in him that saves the world from reverting to the stone age.

And now I'm shitting myself. 15 weeks since my order, still within the normal timeframe for a heavily customized build from him, but still. I'll be fine, r-right?

really poor sound with no acoustic quality, completely different posture since the instrument isnt leaned up against you and they have thinner necks generally which can lead to tendonitis. more worth it just to buy a cheap acoustic upright and get a pick up for it and that will still probably cost less.

Well I guess dont pay up unless you really like it. Good guitar builders are artistes, it wont be finished in a timeframe. Hassling him wont do you any good so just sit tight for now, it might turn out brillant or it might be a bucket of shit but you have only lost 50% advance either way.

Go on craigslist. Look for guitars that are $150-$300. Then look up reviews for ones that you like online. Most of the time you'll find they're worth ~$400-$500 new. Those are the ones to go for, it's what you want. Usually you'll find sales with an amp thrown in too.

If they're worth $200 or less new, don't get it
>>
>>69244166
Are you talking spending less than $200 period or buying guitars that are less than $200 new?

Cause on craigslist a lot of people sell some good midrange stuff for pretty cheap because they either don't know what they have/just want to get rid of it

>>
>>69250966
hmm, i'd say still don't buy anything less that $200. The worst thing you can do as a new guitarist is to buy a crappy instrument.
>>
What strings do y'all use? I just went from Elixir 10s to Ernie Balls 10s, not sure if I prefer the Elixirs just because I'm so used to them or what.
>>
>>69251802
Aren't Elixirs supposed to last long because of some coating stuff? Was that noticeable?

I use GHS 11's in C Standard.
>>
>>69251843

Because of the coating the Elixirs are really slippery, I found my fingers slipping off quite easily when I do decent bends. Once the coating is worn down a little they do become a bit more grippy, but still quite slippery.

Ernie Balls feel very grippy in comparison, to the point where the sound of my fingers running over the wound strings is quite audible. I thought I wanted more grippy strings, but now I'm not so sure.
>>
>>69251802

I havent really noticed a difference lifetime wise. I currently use slinky cobalts but gonna try flatwound soon

welcome to the g&l fold, great color choice too
always remember to roll back the pickup volume before twiddling any amp eq, it's been a joy having pickups that drive the gain stage so well, actually makes an swr feel dirty (and it feels right)
