whatever. it's a really really boring way of dismissing music "oh the artist only feeds into his own ego", well no shit, you could make a similar point about anything because i believe it's true that every action is selfish at a very basic level, but why would you want to? to do pretty much the same thing, feeding your ego
to me it seems like an intimate and personal record, even if it's a little bit cryptic on the surface. it's just a narrative and has nothing to do with quality _either way_ though, imagine a serious musicologist shitting on mahler in his dissertation because "he's trying to be epic and grand and pulling on your heartstrings but it just comes off as corny to me, ykno man?"
it does kind of suck but for wholly different reasons
