Hi guys. I want to start reading "The Advancing Guitarist", but I have noticed that it is in standard notation. I can standard notation, problem is, I don't know how to transcribe it in guitar(alas, I don't know which fret to use, etc). Is there a good tutorial for it?
inb4 google it fagget
>>
>>69192194
Sounds like a great opportunity to learn how to read music.
In general you should know your fretboard, you should know the notes on every fret by heart.
When you're dealing with standard notation on guitar you should read through the entire thing and check out the highest and lowest notes, find those on your fretboard and get a rough sense of where you'll be playing that piece.
After that it's just a matter of practice. Also practice sight reading if you have the time.
>>
>>69192244
Thanks anon, I will keep that in mind while reading the book.
>>
Im thinking about buying a looper pedal. Should i get a dedicated looper or am i better off buying a delay that has a looper function. Which delays/looper to consider?
>>
>>69192283
No problem, honestly standard notation on guitar is a pain at first but it's a huge benefit once you are semi-fluent in reading it. And after that it's only a small jump to actually reading and sight reading fluently.

Guitar USB cables tend to get de-synced after a couple hours of playing and you can only fix them by unplugging them and plugging them back in.

Nigga, it's less than half the price of a Gibson V.

>You're also paying premium just because they stuck his name on the guitar x2
You're paying premium just because they stuck "Gibson" on the guitar.

I'd rather buy a Chinese Gibson knock off to upgrade it myself.

24 frets are nice if you play stuff that requires 2 octaves per string and are therefore not a meme.

>>
>>69195544
>I'd rather buy a Chinese Gibson knock off to upgrade it myself.

The name counts for a lot, especially if you ever choose to sell it on some day.

Gibson are not as good as they should be in 2016 but guitarists with your mindset spend their lives chasing Gibson guitars through copies of them and never actually getting Gibson guitars. Wrong top carves, neck width, body dimensions, headstock angle etc. Then there's resale value and everything else that comes with owning a genuine Gibbo. Fuck Epiphone and fuck copies, if you're going to get a Les Paul or a Gibson V just save up and do it the right way.
>>
>>69195570
I did. $140, can you even fucking believe it

>>69195635
I'm not planning to sell my guitars ever though.
>Fuck Epiphone and fuck copies, if you're going to get a Les Paul or a Gibson V just save up and do it the right way
This is what people believe in the current year.

I like expensive guitars as much as anyone, but if I can find something that looks exactly like a Gibson and it's comfy to play (meaning you can feel it's not built like shit) then I'm buying it, just gonna change the hardware as soon as possible.

I'm probably never gonna have a real Gibson unless I find one used for less than $500 or if they endorse me, which is unlikely.
>>
>>69194680
Rosewood is the most prone to wear but if you're using flats or tapewounds it's unlikely you would have to do any maintenance on the fingerboard more than once every several years. Maintainance for a few shallow divets on a fretless is a simple matter of sanding the whole thing down by half a millimeter. No big deal.

The fingerboard wear issue is mostly perpetuated by Jaco Pastorius' story, who used round steels on a rosewood board and played hard for hours every day. He is did a suboptimal diy epoxy coating on his that had to be fixed frequently.

I have one of these fake customs and all I can say is I hope you know how to do guitar repair. I had to replace 2 frets, then level and crown the whole guitar, change out all the electronics and hardware, cut a new nut and give it a setup.

If you can do all that there's really no reason not to get one, the foundation of those guitars is solid, it's the final touches that they fuck up on.
>>
>>69199967
>final touches
two dodgy frets isn't "final touches"
>>
>>69199997
It's actually a really easy repair, but yeah not recommended if you're not familiar with guitar repair. All in all an Epiphone or Agile is a better buy.
>>
>>69199967
The seller says they're made in the Epiphone factory, what I'm after is the wood and paint, really.
Tuners, nut, switch, pickups, bridge, tailpiece knobs and what not are getting replaced and the pickguard is getting removed.

I don't know how to do fretwork nor do I have the tools to do it, this >>69195697 one came with a pretty decent fretjob so I can only hope it's not too bad.

I usually leave the pots since I only use the volume but I would be getting EMGs for it, they come with their own pots for the solderless installation.
>>
>>69199967
So you can get a chinese guitar made of parts that were binned by the Epiphone factory, stolen by workers and slapped together in a shed?

Just buy a fucking Epiphone to do your projects on, at least the parts they're made from passed QC.
>>
>>69200092

They're not, they're made from binned parts.
>>
>>69200113

>>
>>69200093
>>69200113
I'm pretty sure they just make them in generic factories with fake branding on everything. The whole rejected epiphone stories seem like bullshit to me. The Chinese are very dedicated to making fake shit, they'll dedicate huge factories to it.
>>
>>69200170
99% of them come with Epiphone pickups and Grover kidney tuners, something that just happens to be standard on Epiphones.

All the frets on the ones I've tried have been pretty bad (not as bad as the one I got though) As long as there is no visible fret spout you should have nothing to worry about, fretwork isn't really hard and you can make DIY tools for not a lot of money if you need to.

It was actually just a rhetorical question, I am assuming you're both gay and a simpleton because you're asking us to compare two guitars on no level ground. (ie. what music you play, what scale length you prefer, what sound you're looking for, what's your budget, etc.)

bear in mind the jaguar and jazzmaster have different tones and different playability, meaning that if you don't know which one of these two you want, you're attracted to the body shape and not the guitar itself.

I haven't had any tuning issues so far with the Vibrola so far, but I was prepared to have those issues when I got it. Buck Dharma had a cool SG with a Bigsby that he played on occasion, always associated him with that really funky guitar he played though. Eric Bloom was the main Bigsby sporting SG player of the band though.
>>
>>69200856
Fender Esquires are a thing you twat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Esquire
>>
>>69200727

I use the delay moreso than the reverb. I set it to a nice subtle reverb and add just a bit of delay for solos/intros/outros. The only difference between my guitar and bass board is I remove the Bass EQ when playing guitar and I tend not to use all three RV-3s at the same time on bass cause it gets hilarously muddy.

>>69200824

Both have pretty bad sustain and the pickups aren't too hot so I wouldn't recommend either for ambient or metal. They react pretty nicely to pedals though.

The Jaguar is short scale and the neck is super small so if you got big hands you're gonna hate it, Jazzmaster neck is pretty chunky.

Honestly play both when you get a chance.

Anybody have an idea how to get that lead tone at 3:48? Sounds to me like neck humbucker, a lot of mid on the amp, roll down the tone knob, and add some compression

But that's not really getting me close. Lots of fusion players have a tone like that, but it's really hard to replicate

Oh cool, Hyperion guy. That amp looks cool, I usually don't trust Fender for bass amps, how's it sound?

I got my Boss bass EQ and Crybaby wah back from an old ex-gf, the pot on the wah is super scracthy though, goddamn.

And I bought this from a local pedal builder here in my city, I believe it's a fuzz face with a built in noise-gate/oscillator, it's hectic ass hell and super loud, the decay is hilariously glitchy.

I haven't played guitar in a few months, but I have been slowly getting into the concept of modifying electric guitars more and more. It's not too bad but not great either, so here's a couple tips:

If you're installing it yourself
>Be sure to line it up correctly, otherwise it will sound like shit even if it's an original FR
If you do install it correctly
>Don't expect much from it, it's not a piece of shit but you need a decent quality locking nut if you want to dive bomb, if you don't you will end up blaming the bridge and and will hate cheap Floyds forever
If you're buying a guitar with it already installed
>Take into account the locking nut thing, but don't abuse it if the guitar is second hand or you will literally break the blades

If you want to install it on a heavy use guitar, get an Original Floyd
If you want to learn to install this on a non-Floyd guitar, get the cheap version, for experience

>TL;DR Don't expect much but great for luthiers in training (such as your/myself)

i keep having this issue where the thing that the cord goes into on my guitar (i don't fucking know what it's called i'm drunk. the input jack?) keeps getting loose.

is there any way to prevent this? should i use a strap and loop the cord through it each time i play to reduce the pressure on the jack? does everyone do this? do you all tighten it with a wrench frequently?
>>
>>69206173
Yes, tighten it
I do that because it makes cable management easier
Most people
Sometimes, I check my jacks frequently anyways
>>
>>69206196
so when you just casually play sitting down, you wear a strap?

and what's the best tool to tighten the jack with? i'm not very...handy. i have a limited tool palette, if you will
>>
>>69206263
Yes, I always wear a strap. I dont know if thats weird but it definitely helps me have more control over the guitar.

I just use my fingers. take off backplate, hold the jack in place with fingers, and tighten it with other hand. You can also tighten further using pliers or another tool.
>>
>>69206334
>take off backplate

oh okay so you take off the whole piece with a screwdriver. actually i'm remembering how to do it now, i had forgotten for some reason

thanks

Is there anyone who continues using this beauty?
If anyone is still using it....
I am watching for a sound like Janick Gers from Iron Maiden, is that possible?
if someone have the patch, I will be grateful :D

I bought one of these over 2 years ago, never had an issue, not even the slightest bit loose
>>

Also, if you cant find one for your jack type you can always use the weakest loctite you can find and snug it real good with a nut driver

and is the mic not supposed to be plugged into anything then..?

Not sure why, but that thing looks like it weighs a thousand pounds.

The original vintage magazine article says 8.5 lbs, though I'm pretty sure the trem was added aftermarket so it's probably a little more.

>go watch a youtube video about a Jaguar

If you want to be an asshole about it, then pronounce it like you're supposed to in its native language. Otherwise just accept every country/culture pronounces it differently.

thinking about selling out my current rig (top) for the rig below

thoughts welcome. some have frowned at that amp but it produces good enough quality for a cheap but still giggable amp. almost wish i'd gotten the version with the tiny terror internal when i wasn't broke desu but that was just out of my price range

just looking to graduate to a rig that feels more mine and not just borrowed ideas

heavy/desert/stoner rock is my genre of choice with hints of rockabilly for making dancing tunes

No. I refuse. It's what makes the guitar sound good, it makes the guitar look more vintage than it is, and it guarantees others won't try and play it.

Yeah be sure to take off the plate and hold the other end. I undid the soldering because I didn't do that. Just get a wrench that'll let you tighten the shit out of it so it never becomes an issue again

They're okay but not for everyone.
The round back may or may not suit you and the fingerboard is pretty narrow.
Acoustic sound is fairly strident, but they tend to sound better amplified

I have one that looks like pic related - it's far more suited to strummy stuff than fingerpicking

I have an older 2x12 closed back. It's great-- Orange specs (more or less) at half the price. What's not to like?

I bought mine with 2 Super Lead 80s and then swapped one for a Vintage 30. I love that combo of the muddiness of the Lead and the brightness of the 30.

Should I practice scales extremely slow and increase speed every day?
I want to play lead really fucking bad since I only know how to play rhythm.
>>
>>69211615
who is this disgusting butterface whore give me her snapchat
also
How long have you been playing? Do you know scales? Do you practice with a metronome? Do you have decent alternate picking?
>>
>>69211687

No idea, I couldn't get sauce either

A couple years.
Mostly rhythm acoustic chord playing with slap percussion. Good for barebones songwriting but it isn't interesting on its own and I'm making no progress worth fuck all.

I know a few blues scales but nothing like that.
No metronome, should I always use that?
>>
>>69211800
Learn your major scales. Practice em with a metronome for sure. Don't ALWAYS use a metronome cuz you gotta ride a bike without training wheels at some point, but it is super fucking important as well.
Also don't just memorize the position of the scale on the fretboard. Learn the notes. Learn the intervals
