I'm a 18 years old depressed guy, I'm close to finishing high school and classical music is the only thing I like.

There are fewer rules to follow, and pieces can essentially write themselves if you use algorithms like serial music and minimalism often do. If a critic doesn't like it it's just that they don't "get" it. Everyone is more afraid to criticize because they don't want to be seen as the philistine who doesn't understand the composer's intentions. With tonal music there's less for the composer to hide behind, less mysticism to veil their technique.
