okay I mean I like the Beatles more but the Stones might be better at being a 'band' i mean the Beatles were at their best as a 'band' before Beatlemania even hit.

If we're talking good old fashioned rock and roll, I'd say Led Zeppelin probably? Or The Who. Having said that, the Rolling Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin are all groups that were stand out and definitely pushed the rock sound at the time, but when I say rock and roll I mean rock without any other parameters like progressive rock or punk music.
