Ok, so I've had this amp for a few months, sounds pretty good, quiet (good since I have a little monster who needs her naps).
But this amp has no headphone out, only a line out for P.A. (Because headphone jamming can be as loud as I can handle)
I was wondering if a dummy load for a 5 watt amp would be worth it? Or would an amp this low in power be alright with just unplugging the speaker?

Any ideas / experiences with any similar guitar?

How good of an idea is it to buy one of those online DIY build a guitar kits? I have been changing my own strings, but beyond that, I have been too afraid to perform any maintenance on my guitars. Been playing a year and a half.

This is my current setup
(ps I also have currently lost control of my life so please don't mind the clutter)

So, there's an amplified acoustic Ibanez, a really old and shitty Yamaha bass (which I'd love to switch with a Rickenbacker I found) and a Les Paul.
AMp is an Ampeg+Roland Space Echo RE 201 (really fun machine) and a Sonic Port VX since I don't have any pedal

Obscura really keeps fucking up.
The lack of Hannes Grossman really made the last album boring drum wise too, and Linus Klausenitzer is a bit less exotic sounding than Jeroen was.
I'm sure they'll never top the first two albums and it makes me kinda sad.

I think that's the only video of him playing a solo from that album. Apparently the band barred him from uploading material from their album after kicking him out. I wish there was more footage from that album though, some of the fretless things he does on it are absolutely ridiculous and I have no idea how he does it
>>
>>69153584

>>
>>69153612
oh... In that case, there are shitloads of options. Buy your guitar directly from Spain. WAY CHEAPER. And you can find La Patrie here.

>>
>>69153314
Yes, I'm a spaghetti.

Since you got one, may I ask you about the pickups? I know the new models have a switch, that make them sound like the old 4001, but is it actually any good or..? Because I could also buy an old 4001 but I don't really know if it's worth it.
>>
>>69153689
The switch does its work but I don't use it often because 4001 type pups have a weak output compared to the new ones. Honestly I wouldn't recommend buying a 4001 because they have weaker pups, nickel frets that are ridiculously fragile and dodgy truss rods. Some say that 4001s sound better but the maintenance nightmare that they are is not worth it imho.

Uhm, thanks. I thought older equipment=more maintenance, and this applies very well to Rickenbackers I guess..I will go for the 4003 then, thanks.

>>
>>69154033
Play it at like 0.75 speed and count each stroke, it's a simple 8/8 pattern with a well defined "end" at the 3-4-3 part of it.
Downpicking it is a stupid solution if you can even make it work, it would wreck your wrist after some time.
Counting your strokes when doing fast alternate picking or even tremolo picking helps make you sound more fluid, you'll benefit a lot from that afterwards.

>>
>>69154342
I would only advise that if you do this, you buy parts you'd want to salvage and reuse on a better guitar if it turns out the budget one was a lemon. Like, if you buy an Agile meme machine and a bunch of trem upgrades, make sure there's some other thing you want that's a price bracket up and is compatible with them. That way if something breaks or the guitar turns out to be cock, you're only out the cost of the guitar, not the guitar + parts.

>>
>>69154443
I've tried to replicate it
I think it's basically the concept of tapped harmonics (fretting a note and then doing the same as if you played an harmonic on the open string), but pushed to the extreme.
I'm going to try it again, there's probably some math involved and I hadn't thought about attacking the problem from that way.

Alright, I think I've got the foundation behind the technique.
Basically it's the same as when you're doing a natural harmonic, only this time you're playing the harmonic of a fretted note. So for instance if you fret the second fret, you'll have an harmonic at the fifth fret after that, which will be the seventh.
If you've messed around with harmonics, you've probably noticed they repeat themselves in the other way past the 12th fret (so assuming your guitar is properly intonated, you'll have the same harmonic at the fifth fret and at the same distance from the bridge).
What Tom/Fountainhead does is basically a barre of the harmonics of the fretted note, I think around twelve frets higher in that solo, and then moving the barre at the same time as the left hand.

I've messed around in that clyp by fretting the 3rd and 5th fret, and doing a "harmonic barre" at the 10th, and then going one tone down. I only went up five frets from it because my guitar's intonation is far from being accurate enough to try to do it at like the 18th or 23rd fret.
Also, getting a proper legato is nigh impossible, the notes do not sustain and I had to use more gain than what I already use for like a death metal rythm guitar, if you have a compressor it probably helps a lot.

>have seen this anon posting that tab and complaining he can't read it and being ignored for almost weeks now
You're an angel
>>
>>69155604
the main issue's accuracy, there's almost no room for error, when shredding you can fall back safely on the frets's accurate note, so if you're a milimeter too close or too far, it doesn't matter, but here you have to be at the exact point or the note sounds muffled. Since my index isn't exactly a flat surface, it's kinda hard to get the right position
Intervals become also really awkward as they're not really placed in a linear fashion anymore.

I wish I had a sustainer because it would probably help a lot for this.
>>

My band uses one of my old combo amps on vocals for practice, but only because we're too cheap to buy a proper PA, and a vocalist actually buying their own equipment is unheard of. It doesn't sound particularly great, but I suppose if you're going for a grungy muffled sound it could be favorable.

Recommend me an OD pedal for baritone guitar. I'm using a modeling setup so I don't need "clean" boosting, I need something that sorta tames the ultra highs and ultra lows and adds a very, very slight amount of harmonic content to give the preamp a little more to work with. At the same time, I'd like to avoid too much diode clipping, because I've got enough plain distortion elsewhere.

Tube Screamer hasn't been working, I think it's because of the low frequency cutoff being so intense. I know the Fulltone OCD on Low works, as does the Seymour Duncan Forza. ProCo Rat doesn't sound awful, but I dislike the drive character.

There's gotta be some other options out there I'm not aware of, so lay some shit on me.

I like it. It was my first electric. The only real gripe I have with it is the trapeze who hits the body after lowering the action on the 6th string-side and the resinator fingerboard. It just feels like plastic more or less.

the mooer reecho is fine for bass. it's a decent simple and clean sounding digital delay.

The new Hagstrom reissues are pretty good quality. I have a Hagstrom Swede goldtop reissue and I think it's a decent enough Les Paul ripoff. At least as good quality as a Chinese Epiphone.

It's also a matter of preference. The standard SG vs the special or lower end models have different neck profiles. IIRC the standard has a slim taper 60's neck while the special has a fat 50's neck
>>
>>69157988
I think you might like bass specific ODs that have dry/wet blend knobs. First two that come to mind that I like on bass:

Cheap option
>EHX Bass Soul Food (this is my favorite inexpensive bass OD by a large company)

Expensive small company option
>Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop (this one does beautiful subtle OD and is worth the expense if you want what it has to offer)
>>

I'm a big fan of the Rat on bass. If you are finding it has too much distortion even with the gain knob on the pedal dialed all the way back you could try just turning the volume knob on your bass down. Might be able to find a sweet spot that way.

Not really the gain character I'm looking for. Bit too fuzzy, reminds me of the Sansamp Bass Driver with more wool on it. Not a bad idea though.

If you're willing to go into a higher pricerange I really like the Deluxe Nashville Telecaster.

agreed on the Deluxe Nashville Tele. The whole Fender Deluxe series is a pretty good value IMO. They are Mexican made instruments but with significant upgrades such as USA pickups and more interesting finishes and cosmetic touches.

If you don't mind them looking a bit "off," have you considered the G&L Tele's?
>>
>>69162498
Control your picking to avoid hitting other strings

Try muting the high e and/or the b strings with your pinky and ring finger on your picking hand

On chords like the ones on bar 3 try using your fretting hand index finger to mute the e string

And play like a human, not a robot
>>
>>69163268
I haven't looked at them until now, but they're much more expensive. the standard and even the Nashville can be had for 400-600
>>
>>69163267
god it's just so clean how does he do it
>>
>>69162498
Use the underside of your fret hand fingers to mute the strings pitched higher than the one you're currently playing, e.g. If you're playing a note on the D string, use the underside of that finger to mute the G,B, and High E strings. Meanwhile, use the flesh of your picking hand to mute the strings pitched lower than the one you're playing. So in the previous example, you'd mute the A and Low E strings with the flesh of your picking hand.

I think consciously applying this method will solve about 90% of your muting problems.

The V1 one was pretty cheap and the salesman told me that with an external compression I could get the same sound of the V3. Is he telling the truth or is he bullshitting me?

i dunno man
if you become a luthier you're p much doing it out of passion, yeah you do it to survive but it's also nice to create stuff
>>
>>69165633
People become teachers because of passion, a lot of them give it up after 5 or so years. A lot of people are passionate about whatever job they go into, but most dont stay that way. The job as an idea is better than the job as a career.

if I'm plucking a bass strum, should my finger nail be connecting with it so that there's a sharp attack at the start of the notes? or should i only connect with the pad of my finger to make the note just a consistent, 'soft' note? hopefully someone gets what I mean
>>
>>69166092
bass string, not bass strum. not sure what i was thinking. I would compare the 'finger nail' sound to using a pick, by the way.
>>
>>69166111
If you like that sound, then you can. I prefer the thump from the flesh of your finger.
>>
>>69166092 i'll say no, use the pad of your finger, get a soft tone first

after that work on adding fingernails in if you want, it's a legit technique, just not what everybody wants.
>>
>>69166136
so it's a matter of preference, I see. I thought the 'pick' sound didn't sound very good compared to the thump, but in some videos saw people doing that when going over fundamentals.
>>
>>69166092
>>69166111
Pesronally I don't like the sound when fingernail is incorporated, and I just keep my fingernails very short anyway. If you want attack then just use a pick, it sounds cleaner.
In general, though, you should be only using the pads/tips of your fingers for fingerstyle

Explain how you would have done 3 a side with 12-13 degree headstock angle and straight strings.

It's a combination of best of both fender and gibson in headstock designs.
>>
>>69150025
Not impressed. If you want to play like that go practice legato and two hand technique for a couple years consistently every day.

im new to guitar, only played about a year. i played a Yamaha Revstar RS320 at the guitar store around the corner from me but didn't understand it totally. when i asked one of the employees he looked at me like a retard but i thought it was a pretty straightforward question

there are no knobs for the neck and bridge pickups, but how is this going to effect sound? I normally keep tone near 0 and bridge high while neck is low (I think) to elevate higher notes that seem to get pushed out by heavier parts of a chord

i didn't phrase it like that for fedora employee it was just "no knobs i dont understand"

or if there's a video with a nice breakdown of guitar anatomy I will also like those

The two knobs on that guitar are master volume and master tone.
>>
>>69166793
but typically there are 4 knobs, the two additional for the bridge and neck pickups whereas there aint shit here but there's still 2 pickups. i just have no control over those/they're both always on at full?
>>
>>69166831
Are you dense? He just said that it was a master tone and volume. One controls the volume for both pickups the other controls the tone for both pickups.
>>
>>69166644
I had a ruler against my fretboard the whole time and I knew how much my guitar could give because I had been bending the neck back for months wondering why there was so much slack

I hope your guitar didn't cost over 200
>>
>>69166868
i understand that, but aren't i missing a huge range of control by not having knobs that aren't just master knobs instead of knobs to bridge and neck pickups?
>>
>>69166633
Uhm, not sure exactly what youre talking about.

I looked it up, it has 2 knobs, that will be a tone and a volume. They will control both pickups.

I think what you meant is that you want independant volumes for both pick ups. You can mod the guitar for that if you really want it. Drill a hole between the 2 knobs in a spot that has enough room in the cavity, get another pot, run the wires to the different pots. Thats all it would take, and some soldering skills.

Common set ups are

1 volume 1 tone
2 volume 1 tone
2 volume 2 tone

Both my main guitars have 1 volume 1 tone. I had a guitar i loved that had 2 volumes, i kept the neck lower, and using a high gain amp i would switch to the neck during lighter parts of songs.

I personally think running a neck and bridge pick up at the same time sounds bad, too many different frequencies for me, but i play music thats fleshed out by a 2 keyboards, another guitar, a bass, and 2 singers, a drummer, and a sax player.
>>
>>69166922
Just roll the tone or volume to what you prefer whenever you switch pickups,

If you don't want to drill into your guitar, you could see if concentric pots fit.

well yeah. its just that guitars come with different wiring options. if you specifically want a volume and a tone knob for each pickup then buy a guitar like that. you could wire it yourself that way too. its personal preference.

Time for new electric? First three frets are like this and it get progressively better as you go down the neck. What caused this? It was an old guitar my father gave me was teaching myself with it up till about a month ago.
>>
>>69167530
Those are nail marks, super common on old guitars and heavily played ones. They won't affect anything. Some woods also naturally do this and it really isn't anything to worry about.
>>
>>69167530
You've still got a while. This happens to nickel alloy frets. You can have the frets redressed or you can have them replaced with stainless steel frets.
>>
>>69167503
Some people with larger hands find a fat neck profile more comfortable, yes.
>>
>>69167585
lmfao youre retarded
>>69167530
any luthier should be able to replace your frets if you want to keep the guitar

its just wear from the strings, guy probably played a bunch of open chords on them with a heavy hand. lots of bending can cause this too. the thin strings wear the fret much faster than the thick strings

Depends on the guitar center. That would describe 70% of the workers. Sometimes you find someone who's super knowledgeable and totally okay working for $24,000 a year.
>>
>>69167530
If those dents aren't too deep, you can get away with a recrowning of the frets. Alternative is to refret it entirely.

If it's a cheap guitar, that's a nice DIY project.
