Yeah because this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCeRWaIh5Hw
is the same as
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15JCb6P60Vw

Both are metal, but they are completely different subgenres. You might like power metal with its operatic vocals and harmonised guitar leads but hate the deep growls of extreme metal with its breakdowns and chugs for instance.

If you are referring to metal elitism, I don't care what subgenres you listen to. Subgenres are just a useful way to classify different songs. Metal is such a diverse genre so there is a lot of variety!
>>
>>69140152
>>69140153

Maybe, but you have to admit the subgenres are inly being used for attempts at being special snowflakes. I get the use of it if you want to find similar bands to one you like, but music services already do that.

I honestly don't think so. There is a massive difference in style, structure, content, influence, and overall feel between something like Earth and something like Twin Obscenity.

All music genres do this. It is in our nature to classify and organize.

Baroque and Renaissance era classical music are incredibly different.

Its not about ranking (although my subjective tastes are objectively superior). Its about classification. Metal isn't descriptive. Progressive Death Metal is.

Old stuff like Anthrax is good for classic metal, but I find the lyrics lackluster.

I just heard some Gloryhammer the other day, I liked it.

Demon Hunter is a personal favorite. Christian death metal with great lyrics, heavy sound.

Wuthering Heights is new to me but have a good sound.

Virgin Black is an interesting orchestral/doom metal group.

Have you really never tried studying to good rap instrumentals? They are usually pretty hypnotic and background quality without being too obnoxious like some metal can be. Of course you need the right sounds.

Both solid groups, but I prefer Radiohead for obvious reasons. Death Grips are for cathartic energy and the only other band to bring that to a similar degree is Swans. Moon Shaped Pool is some Grade A stuff now that I've had time to digest it too. Most of the time I listen to post-punk, baroque pop, electronic music, krautrock, jazz and classical music, with a lot of exceptions since I enjoy a lot of different styles. Was this question supposed to be interesting?

>>
>>69141877
>people just don't have taste as diverse as mine anywhere
>using buzzwords like contrarian
See? You think you have branched out and are now the authority on music, when you blatantly ignore two absolutely massive genres, metal and classical. At least pretend to be a bit more humble, posters like you are the reason this board has become a massive circlejerk of pretentious 'intellectuals'.
>>
>>69141934
Obviously it is widely liked by many here, what I am saying is popularity=/=good.
>>
>>69142025
So now you don't like classical? Work on your reading comprehension
>>
>>69142056
Did not say that once, and while classical music is considered art music, classical music is actually its own genre with a distinct sound, unlike the rest of art music which is a very broad genre. With 'art music' you don't even know what instruments they are going to use. Have a little more intuition, lad.
>>
>>69141978
>when you blatantly ignore two absolutely massive genres, metal and classical
I literally listen to classical music daily. All I said was that it was 'faggy', because I was mocking another anon. I also listen to metal, but it's about as often as I listen to hip hop.
>>using buzzwords like contrarian
The anon I replied to used the antithesis of contrarian to describe me as taking part in group think, which is baseless, so I called them a contrarian.
>Try to be more humble
Not in this situation.
>>
>>69142137
More of just a period in the tradition of art music, isn't it? And as i said before, it's liked on /mu/ so whatever you think of this (admittedly mostly shit) board it's clearly an exaggerated caricature.
>>
>>69142154
This entire post sums up my point about pretentious intellectuals, which is what you seem to be. I do not mean to be harsh anon, I just want to see a change on this board.
