Why is christian music so bad? I honestly can't name a single good christian song. And don't come in here and go
>but le bach
Classical doesn't count and you know it
>>69134787
>music inspired by god doesn't count
disdain 4 pleb
I think it's really corporate. Also could have something to do with defining a genre by subject matter rather than sound
>>69134787
How does bach not count
If it's music inspired by religion then it is religious music
His music was fantastic and inspired by god, don't dismiss it because it disproves your point
>>69134787
Dave Bixby - Ode to Quetzalcoatl
16 Horsepower - Sackcloth 'n' Ashes
There's actually quite a lot if you look for music by Christians not marketed to the Christian music market which is admittedly horrible
So you mean modern worship music?
Or music w Christian themes?
Because Neal Morse its amazing
Try this out. It's actually pretty good.

>There's actually quite a lot if you look for music by Christians not marketed to the Christian music market
pretty much this. Christian rock radio and what not is fucking abominable.
>Classical doesn't count
>Gospel doesn't count
>Blues doesn't count
>Soul doesn't count
>Folk, Pop, Rock with christian themes doesn't count
>only the Contemporary Christian music in my grandmas pickup truck counts!
typical atheist cuck
Former Christfag here.
I had to find Christian bands to enjoy in high school, but I hated the usual shitty ones (e.g. Skillet)
I did enjoy Sanctus Real though. They're from my hometown and actually used to put out decent albums. Check out We Need Each Other and the ones before that point. After that album, it was all downhill.
Switchfoot is the closest that Christian music got to Radiohead. Well thought out lyrics and decent songwriting. They had a decent few albums like The Beautiful Letdown and Nothing is Sound. They're utter shit now though.
Those were the best two mainstream bands I ever found. Nothing else came close.

Christian Side-Hug is a boomin hiphop classic
Danielson famile is really good
>>69134787
Spiritual music that contains religious metaphors: Fuck Yes
Christian, I love Jesus but have no understanding of who he actually was bullshit: No
Was skillet good at any point in time?

Seconding Dave Bixby for sure. Also Even Oxen is pretty cool. And there is TONS of good gospel/blues/bluegrass that is very Christian centered. And you say classical music doesn't count but fuck you it does. Renaissance era stuff like Palestrina is some of the best music ever made imo and it is exclusively made to celebrate God in Christianity. Not only that but a lot of jazz explores Christian themes. So really the only bad Christian music I can think of is the stereotypical soft rock bands and the stupid Christian metal bands. But those genres are pretty crowded with shit anyway
>>69134787
Well, what about Current 93?
i like norma jean. couldn't name a single song, but they made some pretty good albums (meridional and wrongdoers are my favorites)
>>69134787
Leonard Cohen, you weirdo.
OK, he was a jew but so was Jesus so the point is moot.

>>69134787
There are plenty of good artists who make music with heavy Christian themes. In addition to those already mentioned in this thread I'd add mewithoutyou, Neal Morse and Lift To Experience as good "Christian" albums. Also, obscure private press 60s Christian Rock releases are usually pretty good or at least pretty interesting. Personal favourites in that area would be stuff like Montgomery Chapel by the Search Party and Troubled by the New Creation
They aren't really a Christian band, but they have a lot of religous and Christian themes. I guess kinda like Suf

I've always thought that KJ-52 was an alright christian rapper. His album Collaborations was alright, I listened to it a lot in middle school.
This thread has actually caused me to listen to it again.
Dylan's two best songs of the 80s are Christian related.

Hey I am not into Christian rock bands but this is Judas Kiss by Petra 1982 and it rocks.
https://youtu.be/vAxg8nuvPKM
And this is The Walls Came Down by The Call 1983 which also fucking rocks.
There are a few musicians, who are good in spite of their Christianity. It's actually poison to creativity and spirituality and every christian musician would be better without it.
When you use religion as a solution to a proposed issue, you're pretty much alienating everyone that doesn't share your religion. This can be made up for by making it conceptually fascinating or original, but most people can't do that. Especially not Kendrick or Kanye.
>>69137392
Those one or two lines are part of the climatic verse at the end though, when Dylan noticeably raises his voice.
>>69137576
Nick Cave isn't a believer though, if that's what you're implying. In the movie 20,000 days he says that he doesn't believe in a god in the real world, but that he does write his songs and stories in them as if there was one.

Weird to see his name here. He performed at my high school once.
i was in my ex gf's car one time and there was some christian pop country song playing on the radio and it had very subtle trap hi hat rolls
im not kidding
>>69137840
How was his performance?
Some Deerhunter/Atlas Sound/Bradford Cox songs are basically Christian songs. Cox has said he became really religious when he was young and some of his lyrics are about praying and stuff
>>69134787
Sufjan?
MODERN religious music fucking blows, but you can't deny that catholic sacred music is some of the best ever written
cuz christianity is bullshiet
These guys are pretty good I think
>>69138100
This music could be put in any possible context and named "satans gay furry orgy" or "Piece 434.564 Ac - Study on the haptics of oranges" ant it still would fit, so it really doesn't count

I used to be a Korean Baptist. I actually asked one of the priests about why this was the case. The idea is that the chords and the lyrics have to be incredibly simplistic so that you can lose yourself to the worship and focus on God and not necessarily the beauty of the music. It's why we used to almost exclusively listen to shit on K-Love.
It was awful. Even Christmas hymns and songs good converted to shitty poppy garbage by the worship band during the holiday season.
I remember I went to a smallgroup dinner and when we were cleaning up, I decided to start playing some gospel music. I shit you not, one of the chicks said, "Oh, this is lovely. But it's a shame that they focus more on the vocals than the Lord," and fucking turned it off and switched it to a mainstream Christian rock Pandora station. It's like decent music was a fucking sin to these people.
>>69137183

I do remember this stuff from the 80s.
