I unironically enjoy pop punk.
What do you guys enjoy/dont enjoy about certain pop punk bands, or the genre as a whole?
I love you OP, the Descendents are one of my favorite bands, don't listen to >>69095854 or >>69095955
Anyways, most bands that play a simalar style don't actually call themselves pop punk. But you could always check out Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, NOFX, Propagandhi, Bouncing Souls, and even Bad Religion. Also do you like ALL?

I'd add Bullets but that's only for big MCR fans, like Cheshire Cat is for big blink fans, or All We Know is Falling is for Paramore fans (although this ones kinda shit 2bh)
It's good but rough for people who aren't huge fans already.
>>69099685
I feel like Cheshire Cat and Buddha are the only Blink albums which I can stand.
>>69095641
How come people rarely mention Lagwagon in pop punk discussions here? Hoss is the fucking GOAT 90's pop punk album and I will fight anyone that tells me otherwise. Trashed is just as good/possibly better but just isn't pop punk tbqh
>>69095641
Adolescents and Jeff ronsenstock have pretty good stuff. Same with the hotelier and modern baseball if you consider them pop punk.

I enjoy it a lot too. And for me it's mainly that for a very large portion of the bands I listen to, specifically Spraynard, I can relate to most if not all their songs.
>>69099807
no the self titled is a boring attempt at being "deep" and enema is just obnoxious nasal choruses.
>>69099767
My nigg, I mentioned it earlier. All of Lagwagon is great, although I prefer Let's Talk About Feelings
pop punk is bad by default, to have a good pop punk album, you have to do something interesting with it, put heart and soul into it, thats whatll make be real, and raw, which is the basis of punk in the first place
>>69095641
i used to write of descendents because i hate pop punk but this is unironically my favorite punk LP by a landslide
>>69099910

>>69095641
What do you guys think of Bad Religion?
Greg Graffin had some serious vocal chops imo. And they were just tight as hell. I guess the lyrics can be a little cringey / teenage atheist, but then again it seems that most pop punk records try to capture that kind of teenage naivety.
>>69103169

Rancid
Descendents
Sum 41
Blink - 182
just to name whats on my mind
if your looking for something a bit more out there but currently my favorite band BALZAC
they literally have that raw smack my nuts with a paddle of harmonic vocals Ive really been looking for.
>>69095983
I enjoy pop punk because it's one of the most unpretentious and straight-up fun genres. I love the energy you get when you're seeing a band live and the crowd is vibing along to it, it's just great. I love it to pieces.
That being said I hate this current trend where pop punk bands seem to change into boring alternative rock bands in the span of one album (e.g. The Wonder Years, Turnover, Citizen), it's so dumb. If I wanted shoegaze I'd listen to My Bloody Valentine, not fucking Title Fight.
>>69096076
This guy's right. If you want more bands that sound like the Descendents, virtually every band to grace the Epitaph or Fat Wreck rosters in the 90's sounds like the Descendents to some extent. Also props for mentioning ALL, since they're basically Descendents minus Milo and just as great.
>>69105447
Go back to your Death Grips thread you contrarian fuck.
>>69099767
Lagwagon are closer to skate punk but they still fucking shred. I saw them live last year and Joey Cape was absolutely fucking based, he had audience members dancing up on stage with him.
Also I'd add Millencolin too since they're basically just Swedish Lagwagon.
>>69099807
>those are their two worst albums, though
No that's Neighborhoods and Calfornia.
>>69100046
Joyce Manor's first 2 albums always used to get posted in the emo threads here but I rarely see anyone talk about them nowadays though. I saw them opening for Against Me! last year and they were p good, I distinctly remember the guitarist shooting daggers at me when I was the only guy who cheered inbetween their set.
>>69100043
That's not Carousel
>>69103270
Brett Gurewitz is a hack and Greg Graffin is annoying, but they influenced a ton of bands and started Epitaph Records so I can't really hate them too much.
>>69103336
Their first four albums are essential 90's skate punk. I always thought Pennywise got too much hate from butthurt NOFX fans because they were fairly catchy and accessible compared to other bands of their era. See also: The Offspring.
>>69103863
>Jawbreaker
Fuck yeah, glad to see them mentioned here. Probably closer to emo than pop punk but still a fucking killer band.
>>69104808

I saw them last year too, I expected them to be a lot worse considering their age but Joeys voice held up pretty fucking well on that tour.
And about the skate punk thing that's why I brought up Hoss, Trashed is their best but Hoss is their most straight up Pop Punk album imo.
>>69099969
Let's Talk About Feelings is pretty fucking good too though I always found it the one I play the least for some reason, even less than Duh, but Feelings is much better.
>>69102725
Fuck yes, I've always thought he was the best lyricist of the 90's pop punk/skate punk era. And had one of the most combined technically proficient lineups of the era and showed it, musically they shit on the other Fat Wreck bands except for Mad Caddies. And now they have Joe Raposo on bass which is fucking awesome.
>>69103270
Fucking great. Still going pretty well too, True North was actually a decent album in all honestly.
About the cringe lyrics, I think you have to get through the cringe moments, since they also have some of the best lyrics from the genre. Graffin's voice has held up amazingly well and he's probably always been the best of the genre in terms of actual singing ability. His solo album American Lesion is great, wasn't too keen on his other folk one.
>>69095983

pop punk was good when it was first starting out in the 80's and was closer to its hardcore roots. it's getting good again because of the emo revival it latched onto. there were only a few bands making pop punk inbetween this period that were worth a shit, and they aren't the nostalgiacore trash like blink 182, sum 41, green day, MCR, etc, being posted.
