I have a metalhead father-in-law and I want to give him a metal album as a gift for the holidays. The thing is, he already has all the classical stuff and I would bore him to death if I gifted a classical metal album. So, no "Master of puppets" or "Master of reality'. These are out. We need something fresh, guys. Something new! And something that is neither djent, nor grind. Preferably, something that is complex and technical, but does not delve into political or "deep" topics (think Mastadon, but not Tool or A perfect circle).
Also, the dude likes vinyl, so the album has to have a vinyl release.

one of the best metal albums of 2014, yet shit sounds like it's from 1975. they seem to still have copies too. he'll love it.

Generally, he likes all things. Just not too brutal or too kvlt or bleak.

Dude is oldschool, he doesn't (know how to) download shit by himself. Also, he lives far away and we'll meet only during the holidays.
Some early Drudkh releases — Autumn Aurora, The Swan Road or Blood in Our Wells.
Coroner — Grin
Sabbat — Dreamweaver.
Maybe Swans — Cop or Shellac — At Action Park.
