Sup faggits
So I'm working on a polyphonic prelude for SATB and I've gotten stuck. I can't for the life of me choose instruments!
Let me hear your opinions!

Why not Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass Choir?
Also in /comp/ we usually dissuade posting soundclouds

I don't think it's very good vocal music.
>Also in /comp/ we usually dissuade posting soundclouds
Sorry, I didn't know that. I'll post the sheet music shortly.

that middle line would sound cool on marimba

Interesting. I am not much of a perc-guy, but sure.

Did anon ever finish compiling the ITAOTS collab composition?

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.

After a cursory examination of your work it looks like most of the super low notes in the bass could be moved up an octave without colliding with the next lowest line (and I think it's preferable in SATB writing to not have gaps larger than an octave between voices anyway). If this can be done without causing many problems you could just have a string quartet play it.

Good point. What do you think of the work all in all then?
So uh, in jazz improvisation, do you base your scales on the current chord, or do you use the same scale as long as possible?
Basically say I have a Cmin7, I would play C Dorian over it usually, but when I play over a G7 that comes right after it, I usually play G mixolydian, and include notes that were not in the original C min scale.
Is that okay?

as long as it sounds good, its ok.

I really like the harmonies you used, it's a pretty wild piece. Thinking about it again it might work well on a pipe organ with the way it's written.

Post with the intent on discussing composition. And remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any music, such as jazz, is acceptable.
Post clyps and accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective

Do we? Clyp is preferred but soundcloud is fine. Unless you meant "only soundcloud" (as in without sheet music)

Fuck, that was ages ago.

My vote is for string orchestra, or string quartet plus bass.
So I had the opportunity to play to a bunch of people.. on a very nice Steinway grand, it sounded amazing. Here's a recording of the piece.

This is absolutely lovely.
Too busy to properly critique but I had to say that

Thanks man, it's not my piece but rather a jazz interpretation of a piece called Chaconne by Yiruma. My life goal now is to own a nice grand.. maybe a baby one. I went back home and played my out of tuned upright and it just doesn't sound the same, in terms of note separation and dynamics.
