I sat at the semi-hidden spot in pic between the plants and thorns and listened to Hvis Lyset Tar Oss in the woods at night and felt like I'm the only person left in the world

I listened to Depressive Silence II on vinyl for the first time in the dark while looking at the rain out the window. Probably the most peaceful and content I've felt for a while.

Patchouli Knowledge is my fav TH char because being a vampire's librarian forever trapped in her domain is probably even more grim than being the vampire....but then again, no-one looks overly kvlt in TH, so it only works from a lore perspective....but the demonic baby from Guwange would be p kvlt if the game wasn't also so damned japanese it eradicaes it...ah CAVE, so close, yet so far...

And King's Field has a gravedigger in it. If you play the game via the "dark route", DaS is p fucking grim. Darkstalker Kaathe, Nito, heck, the fire is dying and humanity is the child of the abyss, with black flame as their soul. Every time someone feeds the flame it's proven to be delaying the inevitable decay. DeS has a few tired Faustian and Mephisopheles rips, but it's a fucking mess as far as tropes go. Still, I assume we can just agree to differ. I'm going to listen to Grimoire's "Requiem for the Light".

Dead was metter than Maniac, and maybe even Attila. But Attilas vocals perfectly fit DMDS, so I can't complain. Dead's loved because of his influence on black metals aesthetic. He pretty much influenced what would be considered Kvlt or Trve.

I feel I might get some flak for this, but the more I think about it, the more I realise Roman Saenko is like the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of Black Metal.

Everything he makes sounds unmistakably like him, and it's a formula that has a few very distincinct parts which get reused for every release, to the point you feel he can just shit them out. In Omar's case it's those outside notes and sudden shifts in a few production styles. In Roman's case it's those "wheel turning" riffs that feel they could jsut go on forever, and a certain type of production which feels standardised through all his releases to a certain extent.

It's kinda like NIN ere he traded his poppies for anabolics in a way. Not in the stylings, but the way they take something which one listens to and thinks "I coulda done that"...but you didn't...and now you can't get the tunes outta your head...

Also, tfw you've got everything Saenko's released except on ething, because you can't find Tractatus anywhere.

i disagree. i think the new album is a logical conclusion to what the band has been doing all along while at the same time opening the door for them to explore new(and probably more ethereal, less directly engaging) territory.

i think a lot of people had the wrong expectations for the new urfaust album because of how long it's been since their last proper full-length LP. they didn't bother to keep up with the various EPs, splits and singles that the band has been putting out for the last 6 years, they didn't know which direction the band has been heading in and therefore expected something insanely ambitious and groundbreaking from the album.

it's a very good album when you acept it for what it is, one of the best metal albums of the year. some gorgeous ambient parts in it as well.
the apparitions EP was damn good as well and works great as a prelude to the album.
