Until the murder of euronymous it was a very underground scene. Sure one or two of them were pictured in shitty pictures in corpsepaint in a foriegn metal magazine, but 90% of the scene just had to not wear their stage make up to a job interview and they were just any other long hair metal kid applying for a shitty job.

Gaahl is probably the oddest one of the bunch, most of them are pretty normal people, have met a few of them, cant say I know any of them, but they seemed nice enough.

Their edgy image attracted alot of unstable people, most of the ones who started it all was pretty normal people with a taste for the extreme.
