Satan's Fall is quite black metal, and has a few riffs that could easily be on a newer bm track. Although I personally tag it as just heavy metal, early MF is as significant a part of black metal history as anything. "Black metal" during the 80s supposedly meant anything with satanic lyrics, but it's a tough distinction to include Venom or the first Destruction EP but not say, Slayer.

Hilandar (Serbian Orthodox church in Greece) was one of the coolest places I've ever been to.

I just watched Varg's videos about halloween and goblins, and I don't know if it's bullshit or not, but in any case it makes perfect sense and completely explains the aesthetics of black metal.

Even more so if you consider that "the crying orc" is the quintessential Burzum song; I don't know about you but I think it's a very striking image that encapsulates a lot of Black Metal's themes.

And if Varg is right, then it means that
>BM musicians with corpsepaints and spikes screaming in high-pitched voices
>orcs/goblins/vampires
>kids going out in ghost costumes for Halloween
>pagan children coming back from the burial mounds of their ancestors
>vengeful celt warriors coming back from the dead to fuck with christians and eat them
are all the same figure, just interpreted differently by various cultures.

And it makes a lot more sense than "we just did it cause King Diamond and Sarcofago did it", which seems like a very flimsy reason to stick to that aesthetic compared to all the cultural and mythological undertones it really as, which are entirely coherent with the lyrical inspirations of BM since the second wave.
