In a new profile with V Magazine she discussed her next step into a very different direction.

>“I’m really vibing on making something really slow and gorgeous that just breathes, and has room to breathe,” she explained. “I feel like my work has always been fast paced, kinetic, and almost just manic and I feel like for me the hardest thing I can do is make something that’s slow and heavy.”

>“I’m so ADD in my work; I really want to push myself into something that would be slower and more reflective,” she says, and that includes her own presence in her work.

>“Honestly, I don’t feel very confident in myself as a singer. As I get older, I’m probably going to try to be more involved in the behind-the-scenes work, and less involved in being the front person,” she explains.

>The interview isn’t the first time Grimes has discussed the new direction of her work. In April, she said that her next album was “halfway done” would be “more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y".

HOLY SHIT IT'S GONNA BE HER FUCKING MASTERPIECE I'M FUCKING TREMBLING OH MY GODDDDDD

How do I express my scepticism towards this whole happening without actually bashing a woman what would be dishonest?

Hmm, I don't know, the whole stuff comes over kind of forced and try-hard-like, Idk

something is wrong with this stuff

AOTY 2017 is already established. Grimes couldn't make bad albums even if she tries.

What is wrong in being like Bjork? Bjork is a good inspiration for any artist. You should be thankful there are more interesting artists like her.
>>
>>68903005
you must be nice to grimes
>>
Remember when she said her next album after Visions would be more aggressive and experimental? Remember how that didn't happen? Take her comments with a grain of salt, she'll probably just become even poppier.
>>
>>68903402
>aggressive and experimental
so Art Angels?
did she released any album between art angels and vision that i don't know of?
>>
She is fucking pathetic. Good on her for excellent marketing thought.

Aggressive? maybe
Experimental? Hell naw

this implies that she doesn't even make her music ALL BY HERSELF, like you grimesfags are always trying to say

what the fuck you talking about
this means she's gonna be more like a producer

>Remember when she said her next album after Visions would be more aggressive and experimental? Remember how that didn't happen?
What about Art Angels? She said in 2012 right after Visions was released:
>I think my music is becoming a lot more aggressive. I’m going more in that direction.
http://www.electronicbeats.net/the-visions-the-voice-an-interview-with-grimes/

Art Angels is both aggressive and experimental. Initially, she wanted to make AA a double album:
>She then went on to say: “I’m kind of thinking about making a double album, half-way crazy experimental and half-way pop. I’m trying to figure out how to do it well.”
http://www.nme.com/news/music/grimes-54-1231527

She kept some experimental elements in the final version of this album.
>>
Almost positive James Brooks and BloodPop helped her with the production behind Art Angels. Especially Brooks. You can here a lot of his breakbeat influence on AA. In her New Yorker article, it says that she was going to cover On Fraternity.

So, an album with a screaming song, an alt rock song, a country song, 2 classical songs, etc is not experimental at all? Dude, Grimes was always experimental pop. If you expect more experimental than pop you're delusional.

>>
>>68903745
They're not credited, so everything is just a speculation. It's more likely they trained her to improve her producing skills, but they weren't involved in the actual production of the album. You just have no idea what a huge control freak is Grimes.
>>
>>68904060
If you think she's not producing her own music, you better prove that, pal. Say it now or shut up.

Im such a fucking idiot /mu/. Such a fucking idiot. I got 10 comments into this thread before realizing that this was Grimes, and not St. Vincent. Fuck me.

You just don't get it. She talks about her project Grimes as separate from her person. Grimes is Grimes, Claire is Claire. When she said she will do more behind the scenes work, she meant she will put less emphasis on her Grimes project and more emphasis on her production/songwriting for other artists. Or maybe even making just instrumental music.

>At the time, Boucher spoke of Grimes as a business venture – a sort of Svengali-meets-singer deal in which she played both parts, exploiting her own self for her own ends. It was an idea that highlighted her creative clout, but it was also a coping mechanism, forming a pop-star proxy to deal with the invasiveness of fame.
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/oct/31/claire-boucher-grimes-art-angels

>The hardest battle Boucher faces is the struggle to be recognized as both the public-facing pop star, Grimes, and the technical mastermind behind the scenes. An architect of her own illusion, she's always handled every aspect of the production and packaging of her work, and the same goes for her new album. Boucher wrote, produced, performed, and engineered everything, designed the artwork—and Art Angels also welcomes a new range of instruments into the Grimes repertoire, including guitar, keys, drums, ukulele and violin, which she learned to play for the record, plus 14 unique illustrations to accompany each track.

For those that don't get the idea what Grimes is about:
>Around the time she released the homegrown clip for “Vanessa”—a poppy, angelic-sounding single from a 2011 split release with Montreal musician d’Eon that would become her first real breakout track—the idea of a “fake pop star” would emerge: Grimes as a fictional character played by Boucher, crooning songs that the real-life Boucher had written for her to sing. “I didn’t want to be a pop star—I wanted to be like Phil Spector,” she says, pointing to her natural shyness. “I wanted to be the person behind the scenes who no one ever had to look at—who just could be crazy and be a genius and have a performer fulfill their creative wishes. But that wasn’t possible, so I just had to do it myself.”

>By the end of 2013, the nonstop touring schedule had left Boucher on the verge of physical and spiritual collapse: “There was a point where I remember putting a hand up and grabbing a piece of my hair, and I could just pull my hair out,” she says. “I was, like, beyond exhausted, and I was just really unstable, and it was just super uncool. It was at the point where it was going to destroy Grimes.”

Grimes is not Claire Boucher, it's just her main project.

For Visions I'd say,
Genesis, Oblivion, Circumambient, Be A Body, Nightmusic -- this album is also very easy to listen to entirely. Tracks 5-8 could be one song. I never get tired of Oblivion, I don't get it.
>>
>>68906090
On Darkbloom only the first 5 tracks are hers. The others were made by d'Eon.

It's all synth-pop. Just because she used some guitars doesn't mean that this song is a rock song, it's called alternative dance, I can assure you that guitars has been popular among radio pop artists for a long time.
And there's no classical songs as well, those two songs are art pop, and they're just short intro and interlude, I mean its not enough to call the whole album art pop.
This album is clearly leftfield, but not that experimental.
