It felt like they really exhausted that era with Embryonic/The Terror/24 Hour Album/etc
It makes sense that they would go back to the Yoshimi-era now
not sure whether it'll be good post-Miley/post-Sgt-Peppers/post-Electric Wurms/post-all that shit, fingers crossed though

I have to say, despite being a long time fan since Yoshimi, I definitely prefer the bleak, depressing Embryonic/Terror phase of The FLips, I think it's their golden works

Mixed bag for me, from what I remember
I really liked Is David Bowie Dying? and the Lightning Bolt EP, but it's been a good 4 years since I even listened to all of that stuff, I'd have to go back and give it another shot
But from what I remember, it didn't feel like filler in-between albums like the 24 hour album or the cover albums did

Yeah, I have roughly equal love for those periods, and I'm more likely to play Yoshimi Part 1 or Waitin' for a Superman on any given day, but at the end of the day I'm more glad the last two exist. But then I think iterating endlessly on the Embryonic formula might dilute their oeuvre a bit, whereas no one gets hurt if they put out more pop.
