Vocals are boring and sound like they were recorded in a bathroom. The drum beats are rhythmically basic and like any other generic rock track. It fails to make good use of effects (which is a key element given it's a shoegaze album), and could benefit from more but sadly it's mainly distortion. Also, all of it is mixed badly and every element clashes with each other.

Overall, it's a pretty poor choice for what's meant to be the pinnacle of a genre.

I found this excellent until the weeb voice came in.

My bloody valentine doesn't even use that many effects. It's almost entirely straight out of a cranked amp with overdrive before the reverse delay. 2 pedals.
Sometimes sounds like an acoustic guitar through a wet/dry rig with a fuzz on the "wet" amp. I'm pretty sure loveless is mono too, could be wrong.

I think the opposite, to me the worst part of shoegaze is the whole chord strumming jangle bores me to death, especially with the usual singing on top of that.
Kinda like some people instantly diss extreme metal because of the growled vocals/shrieks, but the other way around.

I don't get what the fuss is about Doolittle either. The vocals/lyrics are unbearably bad on some songs, and the instrumentals were all done better on later albums. The album would be better if the songs were more fleshed out. Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven are pretty nice though

I agree with you, Loveless is by far my favorite album, but Loomer is the one song that actually has very little effects. The guitar actually has none, other than fuzz and most likely an EQ. To me the best use of effects is I Only Said, or Blown a Wish. To Here Knows When is all reverse gate reverb.

You're right about the mixing though. If you've ever tried to make music similar to MBV, you'll know that mixing it into a solid sound isn't easy, and Kevin is damn skilled to have done 25 years ago...
