The Smiths or The Cure?
>>68850809
The Cure, obvious
>>68850809
The Smiths, no question
Bauhaus
The Cure, not even a competition.

The Smiths had a better career overall, but they never released anything as good as Disintegration.
Also Robert Smith >>>>>> Morrissey
>>68851268
good joke
>>68850809
The Cure is the only correct answer.
http://www.strawpoll.me/11564368
The Smiths were more consistent but The Cure have more great material
I honestly can't decide
>>68851268
I'm just listening to bauhaus lel
Morrissey is a bully

Why does Morrissey hate Robert?
>>68850809
the smiths are way better
both were amazing in their prime tho
>>68851481
>the cure is leading

they're both good
cure > smiths
>>68851804
>brits celebrating halloween
The Cure is my favorite band, feels good to see it getting some love in here.
The Cure are better in every way
The Smiths are just good background music
>>68850809
Both are GOAT, but if I had to pick I'd say The Cure just because Morrissey is such a cunt
>>68852308
Maybe you can guide me here. I really liked Disintegration (for those lush theatrical arrangements drizzled in post-punk gloom). What Cure album should I check out next? I was thinking of Pornography (since it seems to be their most critically acclaimed after Disintegration), but I'd like your opinion.
>>68851494
>The Smiths were more consistent but The Cure have more great material
This exactly
Best Cure album that's not Disintegration or Pornography?
The Smiths don't have anything near the level of Pornography or Disintegration.
But I'll be honest The Cure have made some pretty awful records. (Wild mood swings, S/T)
>>68852450
Faith
>>68852461
I attribute that more so to them not breaking up like The Smiths did. Morrissey solo can be considered and extension of The Smiths, and he has released some pretty mediocre stuff too. But both at their prime in the 80's were great.
>>68852401
Pornography then Wish
>>68852503
Indeed
I'm listening to The Head on the Door for the first time and it's pretty great
>>68852450
Head on The Door, amazing pop rock album
Or Kiss Me if you cut down the filler
>>68850809
A Smith will win either way
Just saw the Cure live a week ago, holy shit it was great.
The support band the Twilight Sad was really solid indie/shoegaze, but The Cure were just incredible, they played for almost 3 hours and played almost all songs from Disintegration. And Robert still has great voice
>>68852401
For me, Disintegration is their magnus opus. Pornography is a must, lately i've been getting back to Wish and Kiss Me x3, not their greatest albums but still you can find some great tracks in there, which are in my opinion underrated (From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Apart, etc), i also enjoy their compilation album ''Japanese Whispers'' the song ''The Dream'' is so good.
Anyways, The Cure is a solid band,it has a record for any mood you're going thru at the moment, check their entire discography.
Is this the most impressive singles record of all time behind The Beatles?
What are some great Cure songs on meh albums?
>>68852712
One fo the most deceptively great openers

What do you guys think of Bloodflowers? It seems to be pretty polarising with some fans loving it and some hating it. Robert Smith marketed it as a part of trilogy of albums that define The Cure with Pornography and Disintegration and as a return to form after shitty Wild Mood Swings.
I personally love some songs like Out of This World, Last Day of Summer and 39, but some of them especially Watching Me Fall run for too damn long. Overall not as great as their 80s input but I still consider it the last really good Cure album
the cure is better in every way. disintegration, pornography, seventeen seconds, wish, faith are all amazing
Anyone else here really like the Cure's "Never Enough"?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5Cqp3pnE98
The Cure is probably better but I've listened to the Smiths a lot more
>>68852769
Maybe Someday and Last Day of Summer are some of their better late era stuff
>>68852769
Really underrated. I really enjoy the constant acoustic strumming texture going on, adds to the whole lushness of the album.
The Smiths = garbage
>>68852989

Obvious bait, but still...

Aren't like half of the writers for that Beyonce album white anyway? Or did she actually write the lyrics herself
>>68853172
I liek that The Cure is there twice because the album is self titled kek
>>68853185
She doesn't write any of the music, she didn't write lyrics early in her career whatsoever. (Destiny's Child, whatever early solo albums)
She might have something to do with the vocal melodies like MJ used to (no where near his level of involvement tho cus she's like 1/10th as talented) and some of the lyrics.
most likely everything is done by a crew of studio people tho with very slight input from her, like almost every pop artist today.
>>68850809
Why can't you like both you goddamn retard?
>>68853250
We do, but we are arguing who is better
>>68852989

>>68850809
Morrissey's solo career
I think Morrissey's lyrics were pretty much goat in comparison to stuff from The Cure. Hard to say I think The Smiths were way more consistent with their quality music but when The Cure hits it's just THE hit. Disintegration is just really amazing, I wish they had more songs with those cold synths.
>>68851268
Bela Lugosi's Dead and The Sky's Gone Out are their only good releases though
The Smiths by a country mile. The best version of The Cure's best song isn't even theirs, that should tell you how bad they are.
the smiths, the lyrics are more profound and the music is better composed.
>>68852705
Rolling Stones are worth a mention here
>>68853184
You can't exactly "steal", but you can take it and put your name on it. America's notorious for that, is this new to you?
>>68850809
the smiths
i will always be an emo 15 year old girl in my kokoro
>>68852401
pornography doesn't really remind me of disintegration much, it's way darker and gloomier but without the lush arranged parts. it's still good and an essential listen but don't go into it expecting disintegration again.
Is this even a a competition? The Cure, obviously.
>>68853239
>(no where near his level of involvement tho cus she's like 1/10th as talented)
that reminds me of something that upset me
back when cuckfork released their best songs of the 1980's (which both the cure and the smiths got snubbed on, although i guess they kind of had to otherwise half the list would be the smiths), the winner was prince's purple rain. this was months before he died, so good prediction for them. but what really peeved me off was in the text blurb for why it's the best, they wrote something like "no one in pop music has ever worked as hard as prince (except for maybe beyonce)". that really rubbed me the wrong way, that they just had to throw that in there.
The Cure
Meme: The Smiths
Non-meme: The Cure
>>68856179
Comparing a multiinstrumentist that really writes his own stuff with a pop dummy. Well memed.
>>68850809
The Smiths > The Cure > Morrissey's solo stuff
>>68856481
>is a twat according to experts
Darn those brittish academics!
>>68851340
What a joke, i hope u die
The Cure.
The Smiths makes me want to eat meat and wear fur. I don't even like either of those things, I just hate Morrissey that much.
Smiths all the way, you just haven't earned it yet baby
>>68850809
Superior to both
>>68852461
Both WMS and S/T are underrated as fuck IMO. Neither are greats but the former has some really good songs like Want, This Is A Lie, Mint Car, Gone! and Numb, while the latter struck me as a solid set of pop songs through and through, not to mention the occasional Pornography-esque throwback like on Lost or Us or Them, or how The Promise is probably one of their best psych rock jams.
Agreed on Faith, though.
>>68852769
I love Bloodflowers, their 4th best IMO. Out Of This World and Where The Birds Always Sing are two of their absolute best, while There Is No If possibly ranks among their most bittersweet.
>>68853164
>>68853172
If I recall correctly, Robert asked either a bunch of his nieces and nephews to draw a pic of him and he chose the one he liked most as the cover, or something to similar effect.
>>68858332
I really fucking like Juju but nothing else I've heard from them has really stuck which includes Kaleidoscope (can't remember a song from it), The Scream (this one was admittedly okay), and the offhand single like Peekaboo (which I thought was dreadful). I kinda want to check out Join Hands but aside from that I don't know what else there is from them that would catch my attention.
The Smiths have better singles but The Cure have better albums. Overall, I'd say The Cure, because Pornography and Disintegration are both 10/10s, while The Queen is Dead is an 8/10 with a few 10/10 songs.

>>68858402
Always go with greatest hits albums if you're unsure as a lot of bands just can't pump out great songs all the time. Cities in Dust, Kiss them for Me, Dizzy and Arabian Knights might be a good set of songs for you?
Her style takes a bit of getting used to, which is stylistically different from American, and I'm guessing, the UK music that didn't make it to the colonies.
>>68858735
I love The Scream.
>>68858690
Pretty sure most people will at least give that album credit for Underneath The Stars, but really it's WMS 2.0 Seriously, the whole thing feels like a collision of Jupiter Crash's production and Strange Attraction's lackadaisical lyricism. To its merit it's probably the most youthful sounding thing they ever put out but it also doesn't sound like a band who has 30 years of experience behind them. It might've passed as a forgettable debut but not from a band with a legacy like The Cure's.
>>68858793
Sounds a little off... I'm in!
