Critics are insurmountably important.
Discuss.

bait
"no"
all critics are parasites that inhibit both the creativity of creative individuals and the appreciation of creativity and passion
they are literally the worst people in the entire world, from snarky shitbags like pitchfork to ebert, to fantano
all critics should be gassed

You realize this board would not know about a ton of music if it were not for its critical success, right? Some music is not all that popular.
>>68846072
Of course I agree that critics are narcissistic pretentious pricks who often just want to boost their own egos as opposed to constructively criticize, but I doubt it is a coincedence that critically-acclaimed music always seems to be the best, given how often it works out that way.
>>68846354
it never is
criticism is judgement
its judgement that defeats us.
>>68846454
Only if it is hateful judgement, akin to vitriol. Constructive criticism is very valuable, though.

agree thoroughly
those hacks at p4k hardly qualify as critics though. i'll stick with piero.
"The value of art depends on the values of the art critic. Most art is born as imitation, not innovation. The critic, not the artist, is the one who defines innovation, and rates it; the artist is merely a vehicle for the aesthetic/ideology of the critic. The critic is the real artist."

this is a totally uncontroversial stance and only literal retards disagree

I disagree. Isn't that a Scaruffi quote?
Artists work hard. Critics just serve as guides.
>>68847716
As mentioned before, guides.
I personaly just like Pitchfork's taste the most.
