If you want a wide clap/snare make a copy of it, pan original full left and copy full right and put them a few milliseconds apart.

Pirate a DAW and look at YouTube tutorials for the basics.
After that go play around with your DAW and whenever you are confused google your problem.
Start off by trying to make something you like.
The beauty about first steps of music creation is that you can be happy about anything you do that sounds good.

Probably has been posted on here a million times, but this as a career choice has been interesting for a while to me, and should I really go to school for audio engineering/producing/etc ? I know lots of people really feel ya shouldn't.
>>

Low pass it and widen it abit, add some reverb/delay. Cmon man this is sub basic level shit. If you would've seen the synthesis video you'd know filters work and what they do.

if you do try to make this your career make sure you have something you can fall back on if it doesnt work out

What are some good MIDI controllers around $100?
>>
>>68812881
the lead/wobble during the drop has very little prescence, and basically the entire mix is stereo, and sounds a bit flimsy

keep your sub and kick mono (unless you'e using some mid/side eq to go about it) and make that wobbly bass a bit louder/ sharper

I reckon it's the bee's tits. Although it depends what you need. I have a similar M-Audio one that has knobs only and no tap pads. The pads would be neat to have.

28KB, 600x189px
>>68824936
if you're adjusting cents of pitch it's the frequency... so if you're thinking about the modulation as a sine wave in radians it effects neither the radius nor the modulation.
>>
>>68824547
>>68823642
the MPK mini 2 is cool but you're sacrificing a lot for compatability. The drum pads are decent, the knobs feel really cheap and the keys don't feel very good at all. I'd get a korg Nanopad and a decent MIDI keyboard.

I'm be willing to, I'd do it for most other software, just checking if any other anons have done it before and have any general advice.

oh i thought you were referring to the pitch, which is in cents. the mod wheel value is probably not in cents but who knows. based on what you've posted i can't quite tell. my assumption is the pitch controls the diameter and the lower value (which says "22") is the radius (amplitude) of the modulation.

just listening to it should solve the quandary

However, I'd much prefer to have soundfonts to use in FL Studio rather than fumble around with Kontakt and its' .nki files

Hey it's normie background music guy coming around again to ask for feedback

here's the last one i posted. I didn't understand the whole 'march swagger' thing :( so I just messed around with the percussion patterns a bit. here's the end result. it's finished composition-wise but any feedback on the mix is welcome and im likely to modify it

idk is it interesting and innovative and does it sound good

I did a bit of digging
Seems I could probably export the sample .wav files using Kontakt itself and then make myself a custom soundfont with some freeware
>>
>>68837642
let us know how it goes, I'd like to create soundfonts too but it always seems like a big fucking hassle
>>
>>68837642
check out sfozando from plogue. It's a free vst and I think it lets you import .wav files into it to make soundfonts. I used it a long arse time ago for just that purpose if I remember correctly.

Sure —
Are the vocals sitting in a good spot? Do the effects on the vox sound too much like "plugin garbage"?

The band has two bass players and no regular guitars (one is a regular bass, one is a bass VI) and they play in unison during parts of this song — any suggestions on how to let the toms stand out without neutering the basses? The toms get lost in the mix, but I only used one overhead mic and didn't mic them individually. Am I fucked there? And are the cymbals too bright?

Also on the two basses thing — should I pan them? I've been told that bass should go right up the middle, but since there's two of them and no other instruments besides drums, would panning them make sense? And if I do, should I pan them all the way?

Is the noisy section too much?

Thanks!

spend a bit more and get one with mono midi, it's worth it in the long run.

The sound. It has endless modulation possibilities but sounds worse than a Volca Keys

I was actually thinking about falling for it since people say fl studio is for plebs

You're a fucking idiot

Don't fall for the Ableton meme.
Ableton drones are just angry and have no arguments why is it actually better than anything else other than THE PROS USE IT XD.

Sounded good from what I heard, endless modulation sounds great too.
Anyone here have a waldorf pulse? Is it as good as the blofeld?
>>
>>68838416
theyre both good daws but imageline is a better company than ableton

ableton are jews and only like to focus on push 2 now and neglect the software and after live 10 releases will probably be the same thing with push 3

if youre just starting out, look up trap beat tutorials for some daw you pirate. trap/rap beats are so fucking easy and they'll help you get a feel.

i just wasnt impressed with it really i know you can edit the patches to make them sound different but its just not my kind of thing

why are you upset he said that hes not wrong you know

First thing I notice is your drums sound very roomy, if that's what you want it's not bad but some other mic setup might work better. You could also try tuning the toms themselves, and if you mic them individually you can use a compressor to make them stand out. You can also try to isolate the drums with EQ/multiband compressor.
The part from 1:50 to 2:50 sounds very good IMO.
If your bass players play the same part you can pan them hard left and right, but if one plays more like the lead melody it might sound weird.
Just don't put distortion on the vocals, even when pros do it it sounds stupid.

>>68838280
It says Behringer on it, so it sounds bad.

Thank you. About the distortion/vocals — is there another effect that kinda does the same thing that doesn't sound as stupid? I haven't delved into vocal effects much and I just dicked around until they sounded interesting.

About the room-y drums — I kinda didn't have a choice there, all I had was a Blue Snowball USB mic for an overhead (my MBox only has two xlr ports and those were being used by the snare and kick mics). I lost the Snowball mic when my apartment burned down 3 weeks ago. I actually like a room-y drum sound, so that's ok — but now I gotta get a new one anyway. Is there a condenser mic you'd recommend that'll work well as a drum overhead and also work well with vocals? I was looking at the AKG Perception 220 and the Studio Projects LSM because of this blind comparison --> http://recordinghacks.com/2012/02/19/best-inexpensive-drum-overhead-mic/
I like that the LSM has XLR and USB, but they don't make them anymore (and it was pretty spendy for me anyway), so I might get a used AKG 220 off ebay. Have you ever used a XLR to USB adapter? I hear there's latency. So yeah, any suggestion you have for a cheap awesome condenser mic would be rad.

There's a mic pro anon (aka lemonbro) around here that frequently posts in these threads. I think he's in the process of moving to Australia or something so idk if he'll pass by here but he's usually a semi daily poster.

Knows a shit ton about mics. He's your guy.
