I don't know why but I listened to the whole of Blurryface by Twenty One Pilots twice recently. I'd already heard some of the songs and thought they were alright but nothing more. My retard of an ex fan girled the fuck over them which confused me. They were given such high acclaim by her and I just didn't see it. I can see they try to be edgy and try to push boundaries but in my opinion it fails quite badly. After we broke up I constantly saw and heard about them as they gained popularity and I was questioning whether or not I liked them, I think they can write a catchy hook or two but I felt as the hype they got was so undeserved so to make my mind up I wrote a little review. Here's the first song. Tell me if you want me to carry on.

>PS: I don't claim to know anything about music this is just my opinion

Heavy dirty cock:

Gimmicky shit flows

Implies he's even slightly related to a gangster
Disgusting break beat in bridge
Stuttering
"Sing with me" cliche
Really unneeded melodramatic transitions
Edgy metaphors
Repeating the same shitty chorus 4 times
Really unsubtle metaphors

Stretched out:

PROS:
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
An attempt to make a character
Catchy hook
Good singing
Cool reverb
The smell thing
Decent stones throw rhyme

CONS:
"I didn't do this one thing but I'm going to talk about how I wish I did"
Overused theme - Now I'm an adult everything's shit
Addressing social anxiety but saying literally nothing about it
Edgy name for his mental illness
More disgraceful disjointed flows
Pointless deep voice breakdown
>>
>>68802594

MC ride:

PROS:
Catchy hook
Good singing
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
An attempt to make a point that's unique
Good doubled vocals
Good dynamics

CONS:
Another song about death not really saying a whole lot
A criticism that is pretty much invalid
"I think about this thing but I won't go into detail about it"
Gay emo kids can relate with the help me part
>>
>>68802609

Fairy liquid:

PROS:
Catchy hook
Good singing
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
Cool mix of classic and modern instruments

CONS:
Look at me I'm edgy because I reference the music industry in my song even though we pander to an audience of gay impressionable morons to become the people I say I dislike
I'm emotional, won't say how or why though. gotta keep it vague for the emo kids buying the record
Another pointless deep voice breakdown
Hook literally says nothing
Trap influenced christian music doesn't really go together
>>
>>68802635

Tear in my arse:

PROS:
Catchy hook
Good singing
Quite a beautiful song
Quite poetic
Takes a look at both sides of love
Nice transition
Catchy refrain
Good voice on the refrain
Not too melodramatic

CONS:
Weeaboos
No shit Sherlock, literally a point a fucking 2 year old could've pointed out
Look at me I'm edgy because I reference the music industry in my song even though we pander to an audience of gay impressionable morons to become the people I say I dislike
Doesn't focus on the sadness of the fact it takes his girlfriend and music to make him happy
>>
>>68802580
kek keep going pls
>>
stop
>>
I'm from a town close to their home town and when I was in highschool (graduated last spring) people jerked eachother over the fact that they lived NEAR the band's hometown so often...
>>
>>68802686
Also they played a show at my school one time lol
>>
>>68802669

Plain boy:

PROS:
An attempt to have more than one genre
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
Catchy hook
Good singing
THAT BREAKDOWN FUCKING ENDS

CONS:
They said not to be generic and look what we are doing! Being slightly less generic! Woo!
Reference music theory because apparently he has the mindset of an edgy 14 year old who thinks pop musicians are just morons and there's no process behind it although they do precisely the same thing
I'll tell you about the pain and darkness, not in detail though. What are you fricking insane? Then the 12 year olds won't buy it, it'll scare 'em.
Look at me I'm edgy because I reference the music industry in my song even though we pander to an audience of gay impressionable morons to become the people I say I dislike
No shit Sherlock, literally a point a fucking 2 year old could've pointed out
More disgraceful disjointed flows
I love rap, my favourite rappers are Eminem, Macklemore and Iggy Azaelea
Disgusting break beat in bridge
Disgraceful Scooter esc breakdown, like honestly if I wanted to listen to this I'd be put in Guantanamo and tortured
>>
>>68802580
I think Blurryface is extremely mediocre

Their self titled album on the other hand is great
>>
>>68802709

The fudge:

PROS:
Catchy hook
Good singing + soprano
Cool transition
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
Cool dynamics

CONS:
Ukelele, like what are you a fucking 11 year old girl. C'mon son.
More talking about music theory
Hook stolen from somewhere
"Nah nah nah nah ooh"
More disgraceful disjointed flows
Terrible rap voice
Same shitty points reiterated
So meta referencing the song
What the fuck are these "reggae parts"?
>>
>>68802732
define 'great'
>>
>>68802742

Gout:

PROS:
A semi-decent attempt to have a deep subject matter
"Don't forget about me" is just a good combination of words, also well sung
Catchy hook
Good singing
Good ending

CONS:
Why does this sound like Bad Meets Evil's "Fast Lane" but is talking about something that's supposed to be deep? The juxtaposition isn't even really a factor that's played up it just seems as if it's there because they can't really make many catchy but meaningful songs
Self-diagnosis cancer
More referencing but not going into detail
Completely disregards his girlfriend and family, R.I.P.
Sudden transition, doesn't really work
Trap influenced christian music doesn't really go together
"Haaaaayy haaaaay"
>>
>>68802775

Gauge my eyes out:

PROS:
Cool dynamics in hook
A semi-decent attempt to have a deep subject matter
Good singing

CONS:
More referencing but not going into detail
More disgraceful disjointed flows
Terrible rap voice
Same shitty points reiterated
That weird American accent where you over exaggerate the pronunciation
Sounds like The Script
>>
>>68802760
like a 8/10
I like most of the tracks enough to have listened to them multiple times
Most of them also have 2-3 parts that I find really catchy and I find myself to come back to those a lot
The singer also has a very different and what I would describe as pure sounding voice in this album
>>
Still better than Clouddead
>>
>>68802791

We hope that these're not the tweens:

PROS:
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
One beatiful line

CONS:
More ukelele, like what are you a fucking 11 year old girl. C'mon son.
Classic edgy statement, hypocritical
So meta referencing the song
Ruins the one nice line with "Yeah yeah yeah!" after it
"Oh oh oh oh oh"
>>
>>68802819

Massage men:

PROS:
Good singing
Catchy hook
One decent flow

CONS:
"Ay ay ay ay"
"No no no no no, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah"
Verse 2 ruins the hook
More unfitting instrumentals
More disgraceful disjointed flows
Terrible rap voice

So meta referencing the fans
More talking about music theory
One line about SUICIDE, LIKE LITERALLY KILLING YOURSELF AND IT'S ONE FUCKING LINE
>>
>>68802837

Bonetown:

PROS:
Good singing
An attempt to have a deep subject matter

CONS:
Rip off of some other shit I can't put my finger on
What the fuck is this instrumental
"My hometown's wank" cliche
Sounds like The Killers
More unfitting instrumentals
"Weeoooh"
Really unfitting chiptune shit
Filler song much
>>
>>68802862

Not too gay:

PROS:
An attempt to have a deep subject matter
Decent dynamics

CONS:
What the fuck is this "phrase" or whatever the fuck it's called
Gay emo shit
"I'm not thinking about you yet I'm writing A FUCKING SONG ABOUT YOU"
SO FUCKING META referencing the song
The juxtaposition isn't even really a factor that's played up it just seems as if it's there because they can't really make many catchy but meaningful songs
"Hey we did this on purpose I swear! Look how quirky we are"
"I'm sooooo crazy! LOL XD RANDUM"
Instrumental doesn't fit at all with the rest of the album, sounds like some barbershop quartet shit
Repeating the same shitty chrous
>>
>>68802892

Boner:

PROS:
Actually sounds sad
Aight singing
Shows emotion
Good closer

CONS:
Wow, a sad instrumental. Too bad it's a fucking loop of like four chords.
"This is my sad voice, can't you tell"
Melodramatic as fuck
Might've worked if the rest of the album wasn't fucking wank
Edgy name for his mental illness
Edgy screams though
I bet 12 year old girls eat this shit up
The gay hanging gimmick's not even in this version
>>
>>68802732

So basically they sold out?
>>
>>68802984
