When I was 13 and listening mostly to dadrock and punk rock, my guitar teacher casually mentioned that I should give an album called Selling England By The Pound a listen.
Changed my fucking life. Changed my musical interests, radically changed my direction in learning guitar, got me into all sorts of fascinating shit, got me into prog rock. Gradually I got to know Genesis' entire discography, I got into (and to this day am madly in love with) King Crimson, I get into Van Der Graaf Generator, I got into Gentle Giant.

It's just such a huge fucking turning point in everything involving music and other things as well for me. I don't know where I would be if he hadn't given me that recommendation just like that after a regular lesson.

I had a similar experience but I burst into tears at "Distant Sky" when that woman singer came in, wasn't expecting it and it totally fucked me up
