Not even meme- ing but why is this album objectively called one of the greatest albums of all time?ikr what literal tangible reasonings justify the accolades of this album? I love it, but I'm not sure why... please discuss
>>
It captures melancholy perfectly, and is an excellent blend of emo themes and post-rock structure. Everything about it fits so well.
>>
You don't know how disappointed I was with this. The first 45 seconds are better than the rest of the whole album
>>

Go listen to Goodmorning Captain again.
>>
>>68705182
Cool trip op. You should "Take It Off" though.

I've read the 33 1/3 book on it, and there's a lot of reasons. I suggest you read it too.
>>
>>68705278

My initial reaction too when I was only half listening while walking in and out of the room it was playing in
Gave it another chance that night in headphones... amazing

>>68705247
Melancholy ? I always thought the album evokes an absurdist worldview and disenfranchisement or near total apathy to the point of things being entertaining that they are taken so serious... sort of like post-emo
Like the point where the events may have pushed one beyond the point of emotion and now being consumed with a complete lack of care... or at least starting to
>>
>>68705182
Try thinking of some weird guy who is kind of an awkward, mute recluse that keeps to himself most of the time and isn't very happy or content with his life. That's the sound of the album. Now listen to the lyrics as if someone's narrating a nightmare and try to imagine the lyrics in your head as if you're reading a book and seeing what's happening. I guarantee you'll like the album more with this mindset. Also at the time nothing really sounded like it.

1. The awful tinny distortion effect on the guitar.
2. It had been over 10 years since Marquee Moon, critics needed a new "rock" album that they could circlejerk to.
>>
>>68705448
Might be my favorite
>>68705458
Okay I will, thanks... Also 33 1/3? Is that the title? When I Google that some kabballa shit comes up
>>68705645
I like the tin sound tho and what's marquee moon?
>>68705582
I envisioned something similar when I gave it a listen
>>
>>68705182
that and my chemical romance's the black parade are my favorite albums

>Also 33 1/3? Is that the title?

it's a book series written by different people about different albums

here's the one about spiderland

idk what you're even talking about

>It had been over 10 years since Marquee Moon, critics needed a new "rock" album that they could circlejerk to.
it's been almost 40 years, and i don't see the similarities between marquee moon and spiderland, except that they both use guitars and are exceptional albums

keep listening, and you'll start to notice how perfectly arranged the songs are, then you'll see how they're creating textures without any noise or heavy layers like modern post-rock, just by how they're playing their guitars
>>
>>68705645
there's so little distortion in spiderland and when it's used it's built up so well it works perfectly. And the only reason it's compared to Marquee Moon is the complex but emotional interplay between the guitars and drums.

sorry lads i was drunk and passed out. here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/file/mbiap418ryimgby/Slints_Spiderland.pdf
>>
ive never heard this album mentioned outside this little hugbox, /mu/. people here just bum the same handful of albus when theres a whole world of music out there.

whats more tragic than seeking approval from anonymous people by making yourself tolerate the same albums the rest of /mu/ are listening to?

theres a reason this album isnt rated anywhere but this board, the spineless emos on this board will slurp up anything slightly melancholy
>>
>>68711961
t. Indie buttrocker
>>
>>68711975
i have an eclectic taste of music, i cant be branded. its funny that youre defending circlejerking over the same 10 average albums though
>>
>>68705182
Vocals are pretentious faggotry if it was instrumental it'd be better
>>
>>68712011
what a shit opinion
>>
>>68711961
then why isn't other post-hardcore or emo mentioned here as much? maybe there's more to slint than a moody atmosphere
maybe the way they played their guitars and structured their songs was avant-garde and exciting for rock music, and that's why people like it
