New to this general, I'm about to begin learning how to play the guitar.
The thing is, I don't like Rock Music. I do enjoy Blues, Jazz, Classical and Old-Time.
I imagine most likely Blues and Old-Time are the best place to begin, although if I'm wrong I'd like to be corrected.
So, my question is: Which books or links should I look into first?
I'm new to music as a whole, so another question should be: I imagine I have to learn finger positions first as well, do I begin with the first OP link?
>>
>>68694730
Rob Scallon has also toured internationally, what's your point?
>>
>>68694776
this general is still on 4chan, so you should still take things with a grain of salt. Do outside research on what you may hear in these threads. It's not always the most accurate.
Start with Justinguitar

>>68694776
I taught myself how to play, so I'm speaking from experience here
Being able to stomach shitty numetal garbage or simple classic/dad rock is in my opinion the best way to get started out because most of the songs in these genres are simple enough to teach you the absolute basics like picking, finger positions, rhythm, basic chord structures, etc
But they can also be just challenging enough to get you improving at a reasonable rate if you put the time in.
It's also great due in no small part to the fact that there are SO MANY free and easily available tabs online for basically any popular song in these genres
Doing this alongside some basic music theory like those linked in the OP is, in my opinion, the best way to get started, afterwhichpoint you can branch out and do whatever you want on a solid technical and theoretical base
>>
>>68694776
I don't even know if this book is easily accessible or in print anymore, but I learned a lot of folk styles from it and if I remember correctly, it starts with some very basic fundamentals.

It sounds perfectly suited for what you're aiming for, at least on an introductory level.
>>
>>68694776
First learn basic chord fingerings and practice transitioning between them. It will hurt your fingers for a while and sound like crap, but in a couple of weeks you should see a huge improvement and can build from there.

>basement dwelling YouTube audience who aspires to this middle class beige McHouse "aesthetic" (lol, whatever this aesthetic is called)
>no songs so they overcompensate with unnecessary technical wankery (lol, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with bullshit)
>strange multi stringed (often extremely expensive custom) instruments payed for with their parents money
>these strange multi stringed instruments are often based on shred guitars from the 80s (a strange choice that seems to based primary on fashion, the hair metal music from that time period being discarded even though it's strikingly similar in substance to their music)
>no actual band members in many cases (solo home studio project)
>so the strange multi stringed custom instruments are a crutch needed to replace the natural writing process that would take place between a lead guitarist/rhythm guitarist/bassist
>also programed drums as a crutch
>an emphasis on working out (an attempt to distract from their music with their physical appearance)
>>
>>68694776
>I don't like Rock Music. I do enjoy Blues

all of the artists you've quoted have laid back, more ambiant tracks

again with the "parents" bullshit, all of these artists have signature models, must be nice having home-owner AND luthier parents
>>these strange multi stringed instruments are often based on shred guitars from the 80s (a strange choice that seems to based primary on fashion, the hair metal music from that time period being discarded even though it's strikingly similar in substance to their music)
what's so strange about a guitar with one or two extra strings ?
>>no actual band members in many cases (solo home studio project)
there's one case in everyone you've posted where that's true
>>so the strange multi stringed custom instruments are a crutch needed to replace the natural writing process that would take place between a lead guitarist/rhythm guitarist/bassist
Paul Masvidal plays a regular 6 string, his bassist is loud as fuck in the mix
Is the strange hollow nylon guitar a crutch for the classical player too ?

Here it is, kids: 7, 8, and 9 string guitars are the result of kids playing in their bedrooms for years and years all alone. The poor kids in these videos ( https://youtube.com/watch?v=RyqW4WkyX6Y )( https://youtube.com/watch?v=wd065h2kH_E ) overly technical "playing" is unfortunately just a compensation for the lack of a bass player. It's sad because the point of music is communication and the most enjoyable form of this communication is a concert (where people gather to share the musical experience). The only people who'd be interested in this kind of guitar wankery are other isolated bedroom-stuck 7, 8, and 9 string guitar troglodytes, so it's YouTube and the bedroom again, and MOM WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY HOT POCKETS?!?

Seriously though, it's a symptom of extreme social detachment, and goes right along with a lot of other unhealthy things like playing video games as an adult, masturbating to internet porn, etc. You'll also notice all these bedroom "pastimes" require a good bit of rapid hand/finger movement.

Playing music shouldn't be the equivalent of mashing buttons on a video game controller or furiously jacking your tiny dick, which is obviously what 7, 8 and 9 string guitar players believe.

What are your fretboard cleaning procedures, /gg/?

I go over the thing with an old toothbrush. Or even a piece of plastic like an old bank card if there is a lot of grime. Then do a pass with fine or super fine synthetic steel wool. Not real steel wool. The fake plastic stuff.

Condition fretboard with a light coat of pure mineral oil.

I don't see the need for cleaners like Gorgomyte and the Dunlop stuff and whatever else. It's not really necessary.
>>
>>68704973
I picked up a 3' XLR cable for $17. To go with that I picked up the Focusrite Scarlett Solo and a pre amp pedal for boost. I could've just bought the cable and plugged it into my amp, but from what I've read, having an interface will make it cleaner.
And something about latency.
>>

I don't know much, just what I researched to understand what I bought.
The Scarlett (interface) has a USB cable that plugs right into the computer. Then using an audio work station, I'm using Ableton Live, you can plug an instrument or microphone into the interface using a 1/4" or an XLR and record yourself.
I just purchased all of this today, so I won't understand the ins and outs of it until my gear arrives tomorrow.
The interface supposedly gets you a very low latency while recording, so you can also use effects live without muddying the waters.
I bought the pedal to give myself some oomph for recording, I'm not 100% sure if this was mandatory, or not.
I tried using a Rocksmith USB cable directly into Audacity before and you couldn't hear the guitar at all through the speakers. Hence, why I went out and bought real equipment.

Anyone ever tried to make this?

Its supposed to be a solid state version of the blackface preamp.

I have a broken Frontman 25r that I wanted to try and turn into a vibro champ or something.

Just want that fender type of clean.

tabs with nothing but note placement and no rhythmic information are shit
sheet has the advantage of not forcing you to use a specific location, sometimes I completely re-write whole chunks of tabs on guitar pro because they don't suit my playing style

Is the guitar stagg c542 good?
Acoustic by the way
>>
>>68711971
It's true. Teenage boys who pick up guitar have a tendency to approach it like it's vidya or a sport. Goal being to be the fastest wanktastic shreddee of all wanktastic shredders. If a song is not faster and more difficult than the one they previously learned they're not interested. Musicality and good taste gets dropped to the wayside like so much garbage. When i worked as an instructor I would frequently emphasive easier songs that i wanted the kids to play SLOW and CLEAN, on time and with no slop and no extra noise from failure to mute their open strings. It was a constant struggle.
>>
>>68713395
General rule of thumb for Stagg is: it's all garbage

What I seem to know about djentfags is that they always try to sound like Meshuggah for the low-tuned brootalz and Periphery for muh melody.

I also don't know why Rob Scallon is lumped in there, he's not even djent he just likes playing weird instruments. Most of his stuff are pretty straightforward and simple.

I'm kind of in the same place. I've been playing guitar off and on for years without ever making much progress, but I've seen a lot of improvement since I decided to focus exclusively on the blues, which is a major passion of mine. So here's a really cool site I found out about recently that I think you might find helpful. I'm hoping to work through all of it eventually. It might be a bit too tricky if you're just starting out, but this would definitely be a good one for you to remember:
