im listening to Eric Dolphy's Fsr cry, im enjoying it so far, i had had a hard time getting into jazz works, can anyone reccomend some good works that aren't the obvious choices like davis or coltraine
>>
What's wrong with Coltrane and Davis?
Tell me (if you already know) what's your favorite subgenre and I'll rec something.
Is this is your first entry on jazz? Eric Dolphy isn't exactly acessible, but I'm glad you're liking it.

>jtg core
>rym

you must be joking right
>>
>>68676805
Not him but RYM is a nice place to get to know some jazz classics and get/give recs. Dogshit for new releases tho'

I'm not sure what's /mu/'s problem on jtg. Don't get me wrong, tripfags are the worse kind of shit on this board, but jtg is actually a nice guy and has recced me good shit.

OP was asking for stuff besides the Jazz classics tho

Bretty good list except everybody's already heard Shape of Jazz to Come
>>
>>68675009
you might like some music from Andrew Hill
the record Judgement comes to mind immediately

Dolphy's Blue Note record Out To Lunch might also appeal to you

Bobby Hutcherson's Blue Note records from the mid to late 60s

Grant Green - Street of Dreams or Idle Moments

Larry Young - Unity

literally tons of records
>>
>>68675009
Try Otomo Yoshidide's take on Out to Lunch
>>
>>68675401
jtg is so bitchy, but he's breddy gud @ reviewing records and he's got decent taste.
>>
>>68678005
so basically just Blue Note
>>
>>68678246
not necessarily, those just happen to be some of my favorite records and were the first things i thought of when i saw that he liked Far Cry which came out on Prestige
but youc an't really go wrong with mid to late 60s Blue note
>>
does anybody have that blue note flow chart?
>>
>>68678337
There are some stinkers in the late 60s on blue note
>>
>>68678384
ok, like what?
>>
>>68678406
Stanley Turrentine- Always Something There
Lou Donaldson- Say It Loud
Grant Green- Goin West
Duke Pearson- Merry Ole Soul
Horace Silver- You Gotta Take a Little Love
>>
>>68678547
kek, ok i knew there's be a Stanley Turrentine record in your reply
i'm going to agree with you on all of those except Goin' West, which i guess i can see how a lot of people might not like it, but i love Grant and i've always been a huge fan of St. Higgins the rest of the band members
>>
>>68678654
It's kind of funny because those are all people who also made some fucking great albums for blue note earlier in their careers
>>
>>68678701
Stanley Turrentine - Jubilee Shout is pretty good
i like teh Blue House sessions too - i've never really been much of a fan of ST, but that band sounds good
