What?
>>

that album is the least interesting jazz album I've ever heard in my entire life. zero original pieces, piano tone is trash, and every standard has been done better over a dozen times. you like this album because the album cover is nice and because foreign (read: Japanese) albums are arbitrarily more artsy to you. get a fucking life weeb

>>68673185
This is ironically fucking amazing. Good game too mate

OP here I love free jazz, I don't think Scenery can touch a lot of albums technically speaking but too this day all the songs stick in my head and I always find myself humming almost every track on this.

It's why I titled the thread catchiest jazz albums not best jazz albums
>>
>>68673621
free jazz is awful too. you really are completely hopeless
>>
>>68673656
>an entire sub genre in which most of jazzes greatest works are is awful

OP posted Ryou Fukui's "Scenery". Nujabes and Fishmans are other popular Japanese artists. Ryo, Nujabes (Sabe Jun), and the lead of Fishmans are all dead.

Ergo, Japanese + Non-mainstream Genre + Death = ULTIMATE HIPSTER MUSIC

people are no longer allowed to have preferences and personal taste, they must balance their preferences to be obscure enough to not be uncool because of popularity, without being so obscure as to be uncool.

I disagree. He's like a less talented Bill Evans, but caters his style more towards a somber, autumn aesthetic. It's a very catchy jazz album. It isn't experimental, it doesn't push the envelope. And hell, one could say he did little to nothing new or original on the album. But somehow, it's good. Somehow there's a charm to his music, there's a glimmer of personality that shines through it all. I have fond memories of walking around Philly late at night around Christmas time playing that album, gives me genuine nostalgia. I don't love it, but I understand the hype, which I don't think is from weeb culture. Overall, 7/10.

What's this type of jazz called? I've surely heard it tons of times in other games, like in Yugioh Power of Chaos Joey the Passion, and it never ceases to make amaze me.

It's a fantastic mood-setting album. It really puts you in a fully-realized aesthetic. To me, it sounds like walking through a busy commercial center at christmas time then going home to cozy up with hot coco.

If by interesting you mean less innovative or creative then I tend to agree, however it's not a bad album, his style has a nice bop/bluesy feel, he knows how to use dynamics and obstinattos to ride a climax, and with a rhythm section that knows where he wants to go and how to follow him it makes for a nice album that's easy to listen for people that might not be that much into jazz.

It might be simplistic but it works.

Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers definitely fits into this
