>underwater pop

>>68663873
good stuff, like it a lot

>>68663492
needs more bass, too much middle

>>68664069
too muddy, to the point where the sound to noise ratio is too high

>>68667374
disgustingly brostep, good job

>>68668499
very original, i like it, the glide synth is a little too obnoxious though

>>68644586
it all sounds fine, but there are no layers, no intricacies

what this anon said >>68644642

>>68644160
your percussion is too quantised, it isn't offering any character to the track
>>
How do I make pads that don't sound cheesy or over the top?

Or are there any synths or soundbanks with decent pads?
>>
>>68671467
define cheesy
>>
>>68671467
practice, also a synth you enjoy as well as understanding basic synthesis - don't use presets
>>
>>68671467
make them extremely fuzzy

like the idea of metal trap but there is not happening enough. Listen to trap or metal there is so much happening
>>
A week or so ago some anon told me this track wasn't engaging, can anyone give tips on how to better engage the listener? Or just feedback in general would be great. Thanks

wtf prod

wheres the real ableton tutorials? I want to watch some but there's so many idk where to start
>>
>>68673935
It's for educational purposes.
>>
Why can I barely tell the difference between my drums with glue/parallel compression and on and off? I've just started trying to learn to use them and my ear is failing me
>>
>>68674142
That's because there isn't, they're all compressors
>>
>>68674159
I don't mean telling the difference between the different compressors, I mean telling the difference between having the compressor on a track and not having one at all
>>
>>68674262
maybe your attack is too slow or some other parameter is wrong
>>
>>68674360
I'm not so sure. I can see the gain reduction taking place on the vst, but when I'm not looking at the screen I couldn't tell if it's on it not. Am I just deaf?
>>
>>68674403
crank up the gain or lower the threshold, idk man
But compression is usually used to mix with other shit, turn all your other tracks on and play with the compression until the drums jump out just right. Of course some settings will be more subtle.
>>
somebody gimme teh prod discord?
>>
>>68675726
sounds like a great / terrible time

https://clyp.it/xhcowjcv
>>
>>68675726
About that, what ever happened to the /prod/ irc?
>>
i feel like i'll get some shit for this but ive had my logic pro certification since february and it's just some piece of paper pretty much.

how can i actually put it to use? (inb4 burning it or something) can i just put ads on craigslist offering classes for beginners?
start shotguning emails to local studios looking for internships?

i'd like to at least try and use this to start a change in my career path.
>>
>>68674142
because it`s subtle. Watch some youtube tutorials to get an reference
>>
>>68677068
expect to work for free or very little money. Ask yourself if you really want it because it`s defenetly not easy
>>
>>68677068
>can i just put ads on craigslist offering classes for beginners?

Pretty much this, you could also look around your area for any youth clubs that have music facilities and see if they need anyone to teach (or organize new?) classes, community budgets are tight though and you might only get offers to do free volunteer work, but it would still give you a base to operate from so that you can approach studios to arrange open days and build your contact list.
>>
>>68677350
Funny you say that, I've been watching videos for the past hour and they show how to compress, then turn it off and on to compare and it really is subtle! They act like it's blatant but I'm straining to hear the difference. Good to know it's meant to be subtle
>>
>>68677456

They act like it's blatant because they know what they're listening for, and that is the part they fail to communicate to the viewer - with compression on drums you want to focus on the attack and decay portions of the drum sound since these are the most affected areas.

Compression (with make-up gain) can make drum decay times longer as the gain reduction in the compressor decreases in the latter part of the sound, heavy compression with fast attack times is also noticeable as the drum is first struck - the sharp click of the drum hit will be softened and sound almost flabby, then as you increase the compressor's attack time you'll hear the click return to the drum sound since the compressor is now letting the transient through.
>>
>>68677645
>>68677456
https://www.attackmagazine.com/features/columns/gregory-scott-demolishing-the-myths-of-compression/
taught me everything
>>
>>68677456
If you can't hear transients well, which is what compression tends to affect most, then you won't really hear what you're doing. Any decent set of monitors will help. Be sure to dampen all early reflections before they reach the listening position.

If you can clap in your room and hear a flutter echo off the walls, you got some work to do.

did this track after partying whole weekend, took some speed n smoked some weed and went under a blanket to my friends pc to make this whil he slept, i think the build up is fucking cray
give it a spin dudes, tell me should go n finish it
>>
>>68678435
>https://clyp.it/u2f4gl5m
the ideas are there you just need more experience. My advice would be to write more music. DonĀ“t get hung up on one song. Write one and then get to the next one you will get better over time
>>
Do any of you guys like trying to remake/redo songs with just your DAW?

For example
https://clyp.it/q21mgv1q
https://clyp.it/4k3ifivz
https://clyp.it/c51urrqh
https://clyp.it/2vv3t2sp
https://clyp.it/l3rntxke

I know these aren't done to well, but it's a lot harder than it may seem.
>>
>>68677424

alright.

has anyone had any luck posting flyers on like a guitar center cork board or something similar?
>>
>>68678233
same person, just made this

what do you guys think?

>>
>>68682560

change that snare asap

nice melodies
>>
So guys I don't even use presets but it's usually a good way to judge how capable a synth is and... maybe i'm doing it wrong but...

I'm trying out serum and zebra 2 and the presets on zebra 2 make it sound like ass. while the presets on serum are real damn decent and powerful. wtf is going on I honestly thought zebra was going to be better but all the presets sound like yamaha keyboard sounds
>>
As an AbletonLive user, what is the best VSTs I can download? I am willing to pay for them too (to a reasonable extent). Whenever I watch tutorials these people have hundreds of VSTs and effects and shit I just have no idea where to begin.
>>
>>68683157
u-he presets are usually trash, that's just the way it is
>>
today will be a long /prod/ night, have to do a 2 min track for a fashion summer collection video for tomorrow. Thinking about some easy entry level house
>>
>>68683314
komplete
>>
>>68683337
good luck dude

sometimes rushed songs are the best ones
>>
>>68683346
>$600

hmm
>>
>>68683381
komplete ultimate, of course
the small version is missing loads of stuff
>>
>>68683314
Soundtoys is a good effect package. Instruments, get the arturia and korg packages they are everywhere cracked online, U-He Diva, LuSH101, and thats enough to play for a while.
>>
>>68683412
They're jewish as fuck, you have to pay to update to latest versions too. At leadt Ableton is a one time drop and you get free updates.
>>
>>68683314
Wellllllll, ableton comes with decent enough synths. The stock sounds that suck the most on ableton are the stock drum samples. They sound like ass.

Now I don't think you need a drum vst... but maybe get some good samples for your percussion.

I guess you could get some synth vsts if you want. They're fun to play around with and eventually you'll want to find a synth that you like and really get to know deeply so that it becomes your 'go to' synth.
>>
>>68683448
Yeah the drums are shit, even the free sample pack from loopmasters has better drums.
>>
Where do I get good sounding drum samples? Also is there a better way to do 808 glides in ableton besides putting it in a simpler track with gliss turned on?

Bonus points: How do I make catchy noise bangers?
>>
>>68683315
>thats just the way it is
REEEE why is this allowed.

Ok I'll try to get decent sounds out of it by programming it. Kind of gay that it doesnt have good presets for you to go from and draw inspiration. I mean; that's a huge time sink to be honest.

I'll go for a lush warm pad that sits nice in the back of the mix, something like bomberman64, and see how long that takes me.
>>
>>68680701
>https://clyp.it/rmbm10lr
I love it man! So good, reminds of Nujabes or J Dilla.
>>
>>68683604
>>68683157

man zebra is confusing as shit
>>
>>68680701
Needs mixing. A lot of mixing. Grooving regardless
