So anyone have any alternate covers for Diamond Dogs? I love it. My favorite album. That said, I understand what he was going for with the cover. That said, it looks like hot trash airbrush sprayed on a carnival ride, and it deserves better. Anyone got better?

Nice MEME!! This is legitimately one of Bowie's best album covers.

It's his best album period.

It seems that as of late is has become less taboo to consider Bowie's best and I'm really psyched about that.
>>
>>68662971
It was a 'taboo' to consider Diamond Dogs amazing?

Well that's stupid.
>>
>>68662971
>>68663175
Nah, it's definitely taboo. Until recently, it's been seen as kitchy as fuck and flawed.

Frankly, I love any rock opera, and this is the best one. It takes a real ambitious concept and hits closer that most. Sounds great, works well, and he did most of the damn thing himself. It's underrated.

>>68662960
I actually sort of like that as an alt. Funny to me they even censored that.
>>
>>68663459
It's really hard to choose but for me it's my favorite of Bowie's albums.

>Tightest album concept.
>Amazing glam-funk production
>Bowie's largest vocal range (Especially on Sweet Thing)
>Mike Garson on the fuckin keys.
>Every track is fantastic

It's THE perfect Bowie album (Though there are many contenders )
>>
This is the first Bowie album where he sounds so fucking deep voiced.
What changed his voice so drastically?
>>
>>68664079
Smoking, maybe?
>>
>>68663639
>Every track is fantastic
I'd agree except I've never been able to get behind that last skeleton family track. Pisses me off.
>>
>>68664123
Is it because the ending skips?
>>
>>68664079
I've always fucking wondered that and nobody has ever answered me.

Does nobody give a shit about Bowie's voice getting deeper in his 20s?
>>
>>68664327
He was a heavy as hell smoker. I don't know what else would explain the voice drop.

nah theres nothing wrong with that ending. quite fits the vibe
>>
>>68664370
If it weren't for It Ain't Easy, I'd agree.
>>
>>68664489
Lol, the one song Bowie didn't even write. I still like it.
>>
>>68664534
It's not about him not writing it, it's about the song being the weakest/worst sounding on the album.

OP here, you're a fool. Not like I listen to it on repeat tons, but that ending is fucking perfect for what it wanted to do.

Still OP. I'm glad someone else said it. I always felt crazy about that, especially since one of the inciting things that made me listen to him so much and love his work was someone going "You sound like him when you sing."

He definitely went higher-register after having a decade off for the Next Day. A lot of it was smoking. That said, I've heard cocaine would have done something similar or amplified it, and he did mountains of coke, so there's that.

Plus, he just shifted focus after Aladdin Sane. I feel like he wanted to go deeper, use less affectation in his voice. He was singing love songs and bright, high glam rock. From Ziggy to "Heroes" in five years, vocally, requires at least a little intentional movement, cigarettes or not.

Still a crazy fucking transition.

>>68664370
Ziggy's legendary, but Aladdin Sane is literally better.

>>68664489
>>68664601
Fucking hell. It Ain't Easy is amazing. The weakest is Star on-album, though live it's way, way, way fucking better.

>>68665207
Fuckin' saved. Not the best image of him for it but I like the style and the typeface.
>>
Bowie WAS a Diamond Dog! Call him! (Last great album by him btw imho)
>>
OP, next time you write a thread, story, paper, newspaper article, anything; please don't say "That said," Its extra to say it once, but you've managed to use it at least three times in this thread.
>>
>>68662971
It's one of my favorites of glam Bowie era, that said Rock 'n Roll With Me is the worst song in the entire glam rock genre and of Bowie's career, and Big Brother deserved better than to be turned into whatever the fuck the last track was supposed to be. It's a flawed album to be sure.

Sweet Thing-Candidate-Reprise is absolute fucking gold though and is a criminally underrated piece.

I appreciate that you recognized it. I fully know I went too far and have always hated that affectation, thanks for bringing it up.

That said.

>>68668304
Fully agree with this. Rock n' Roll With Me is clearly a cut Ziggy song and it's not the best. He did some good with it, but it's really clearly out of place on Diamond Dogs until you do a little mental gymnastics to make it fit. Big Brother was great, could have been produced better, but I see where you or others would find issue with it.

Album's great, but flawed as fuck. 1984 is stupidly underrated.

I'm always vindicated that the Sweet Thing suite was right at the top of the album/playlist Bowie made that was, basically, him going "This is the stuff I made that I think is overlooked and love." It's a great piece and it deserves way more than it gets. One of the reasons I love the album so much.

Plus, I don't know how it'd fit in, but this should have been on the album. It's one of the most personal songs he ever wrote, and damn if it isn't great.

Aladdin Sane was an abysmal follow up, never understood why it's so liked other than mainstream appeal.
The title track is literally the only thing on that album I come back to and even that's on rare occasions.
