Best pop album of the year?
she's trying too hard to be like Madonna. she should stick to her NYC nightlife cumdumpster lifestyle.

Be like Madonna? How? Where? When?
>>68648887
Who cares, i just want to eat her ass.
No but it's still mostly good. It's a step in the right direction
lol nope

>not knowing Madonna's country phase
>>68649328
it sounded to me like she was trying to rip off St Vincent's s/t
>>68650915
How?
Like the other anon said, it was more madonna cross-over than anything.
Angel Down was really nice though, I hope she experiments more and doesn't fall back into generic club tracks
>>68650915
Doesn't sound anything like it.

Finally got around to giving the entire album a good set of listens. Couldn't agree more with >>68650285 about it being a step in the right direction. Am tempted to also agree that most of it is actually quite good musically. However this isn't too say that I don't think it has major problems, most particularly to do with an apparent lack of sincerity.
Lady Gaga is (and always has been) primarily a musical burlesque act, with an emphasis on the word ACT. Nothing about it comes across as sincere - which is fine since sincerity isn't the point of that kind of art (it's all about Entertainment, baby!)
With Joanne, it is obvious that she's now going for sincerity - which I can totally understand and approve. However the problem is that there is still too much old-school faux Gaga going on in these songs for them to come across as truly genuine. Don't get me wrong - they all have their moments. However it's hard to take someone's emotional outpouring about a dead relatively seriously when they keep interrupting their own clearly heartfelt guitar-voice verse delivery with sudden bursts of power-ballad chorus belting.
Imo she would've been far better served releasing an entire album of acoustic guitar ballads or something. Yeah, it would have totally alienated her existing audience. But at the end of the day she would've been in a very strong place artistically going forward. As things stand she seems seemingly caught between making the music she wants to make and giving people what she thinks they want to hear.
