I'm not a big fan of MBV, Ride, Slowdive, LSD, HANL, etc.

But the layers of guitar effects and feedback are so pleasing to listen to at times, especially when coupled with the maj7 and maj9 chords that are so common in shoegaze and dream-pop.

My favorite bands are actually considered shitty by most, but to me, they make me eargasm and give me a one-way ticket to the feels train, at which point I board immediately and gaze at the lush landscapes of melancholia, awash with hiraeth, ruminations of homosexuals concerned with footwear, until I arrive at Kevin Shields' shrine where I ejaculate 0.57 litres of semen into the cup of offering. Finally, Loveless ends and I wake up in a cold sweat, undies soiled. I do this every night when I'm reminded of tfw no qt shoegaze gf. :'(

I love when shoegaze is backed up by a drummer who bangs the shit out of the cymbals. Most of the popular shit is backed up with such bland, lifeless drumming, that they might as well have gone with a drum machine imo.

if you mean the notes themselves, the pitch bend is one of the emotionally-affecting melodies I've heard. If you just mean the tone, I guess I can see that, but I enjoy how distorted the guitars are anyway.

I'm a musician and it's my favorite track so bug off, PAL.

No interesting background layers. It's just chords (which sound like generic powerchords, though I realize he plays it differently) overlain with guitar melody notes that follow the chords almost exactly. It's like something a crappy pop-punk act would do. Compare it to a track like Come In Alone where the lead guitar notes harmonize with the background chords (which are also supported by an additional layer of clanky metallic fuzz strumming) in an interesting manner that you wouldn't expect.
