I'd say... maybe early modern guys like Ravel, Debussy, Saint Seans, Faure might be a good way to get used to the sounds because lots of their works sound like film soundtracks
Maybe start with piano concertos, quintets, trios, instead of full symphonies
Something I like to do, since I'm not that well educated and I'm not very used to read a lot is to take a quick look at the work's wikipedia page or anything I find about online
Because, as much as theory is important, sometimes it's the reason and context behind the work that makes it have sense

Actually it wasn't as great as pretty much everything else I've heard from her, still worth a listen though. Seems she really shines w/ solo cello and chamber music
