Polling for any recommendations for synthwave artists and/or albums. I really dig Perturbator, especially his slower tracks. Minuit off of Dangerous Days and Sentient off of Uncanny Valley are some favorites.
Do other artists do a lot of work like this? I tried searching around on rateyourmusic.com until they cut me off for loading pages too fast.
I'll admit I'm a stranger to /mu/. Does /mu/ not know/do synthwave?
pertubator has some alright tracks but carpenter brut is better overall
>>68617809
Yeah, I like carpenter brut as well. Any other recommendations?
>>68617448
>synthwave
more like "waste your money on music degrees"-wave
>>68618074
i'd say just comb through both the hotline miami soundtracks until you find something you like, plenty of different artists and a good number of them are quality
M.O.O.N. is a personal favorite
>>68617448
This is my absolute favorite synthwave album ever. Full stop,

/mu/ knows about it, but the overwhelming majority of /mu/ cares about novelty value (which they call "innovativeness") above all else, so they dismiss synthwave because it isn't supposed to "evolve", only to emulate an already existing sound, and therefore can't "innovate" (come up with gimmicks that haven't been heard before).
In their own words, it's "played out", as if it was ever supposed to be a brand new cutting-edge advance in avant-garde electronic music or someshit.
Meanwhile they still wank it to minimal techno, which is an equally formulaic genre that lost its public relevance about 15 years ago.
But that's all just an excuse. The REAL reason why they dismiss synthwave is because there are too many uncultured /v/irgins (like you, OP) who just approach synthwave as an edgier alternative to chiptune, and /mu/ doesn't want to be associated with these people. They're so afraid of it that it ends up spoiling their enjoyment of the music.
So there you have it.
>>68618260
this is Candie Evans by the way.
>>68618260
chiptune is pretty good if you blast 250+ bpm breaks over it though
>>68618318
yeah but then it becomes J-core or someshit
>>68618318
>using drum loops
wow, that is presumptuous...
>>68618333
i thought it was chipbreak honestly
that might be reserved for slower speeds though
>>68618429
you'r probably right, J-core is mostly gabber beats
Com Truise's "Cyanide Sisters"
Lazerhawk's "Visitors"
I also kind of like VHS Head but Midnight Section is their only good record, everything else is a bit of a unenjoyable mess.
>>68618458
i'll check out vhs head
Overall Synthwave is genre filled with utter shit with occasional gems in the rough. If you want to really find things you enjoy, mark down the elements you like in the songs you like and look around elsewhere.
>>68618498
>utter shit
only in the chillwave subgenre. Those fucking 2000s mumbly RnB vocals are unbearable.
>>68618498
Misuse of "gems in the rough".
That expression means that these albums are clumsily put together, which is wrong
>>68618533
IDK both are dimishing returns types of genres. They sound dope as fuck on their first listen but when you try to find something as good as whatever you found you'll quickly learn it's pretty empty and get bored quickly.
Still like Lazerhawk tho.
>>68618678
>dimnishing returns
there you go again with the industrial novelty value shit.
Anyway it's like with every fucking genre out there. 75% of it just makes decent background music or basic dance tunes, which is fine.
Are there any Synthwave albums that don't have shitty gay artwork?
>>68618878
there u go
>>68617448
>>68618878
>shitty, gay
Good descriptors. Will really help me filter through my list.
Gunship are good.

Lazerhawk
>>68618984
a bit too modern-sounding tho
>>68619047
I don't think 'synthwave' implies datedness. But whatever.
>>68617448
>tfw you'll never be balls deep in a thicc perturbator girl
>>68619097
>a thicc perturbator girl
>perturbator girl
Are you referring to the girl on the cover, or something else?
>>68619189
I think he's referring to the girls perturbator tends to put on album covers in general, including that one.
Any of yall niggas listen to GOSTs new album?

Can't go wrong with Hotline Miami and the Far Cry Blood Dragon soundtracks but there's more out there if you're willing to drop the label and just look for synth-heavy music

Gost - Behemoth
Chvrches - The Bones of What You Believe

I don't care what you call it. What I like about the tracks I mentioned are that they are slow, brooding synth-heavy tracks with a muted, despondent vocal accompaniment. I guess synthwave also has a tendency to touch on some cyberpunk themes that I dig as well.
If you can recommend anything else that pushes some of those buttons, that'd be awesome, regardless of whether it's "synthwave" or not.
you wont regret it.
>>68620601
Like this?

>>68620644
Yeah, that's really nice actually.
>>68620722
Glad you like it, I know I made a pretty daunting list but if you just want something to start with, stick to Lorn and Depeche Mode
>>68620881
Nah, bigger is better. I just recognized some names on that list that seemed more in the vein of Perturbator's heavy stuff, which I do like, but that is less like the tracks I mentioned.
After listening to some Lorn on soundcloud, I think you nailed it, though. This is great.
>>68618144
This is amazing. Thank you for posting this.
Waveshaper is ok
Carpenter brut is best though IMO

I've never really accepted "good as background music" as a very good compliment for any music.
Kinda like how you can listen to tv sitcoms in the background and still know whats going on.
"Good as a background" doesn't really make for "great" tv or music, simply good.
>>68617448
Nice ass.
>>68621215
let me know if you if you want a 24/44 flac.
my pleasure.
>>68618088
Why would someone get a music degree to make this shit
>>68617448
