I actually love Walker but saying BB is doing something radically different from Tilt or The Drift is just delusional. Bowie's death as a celebrity is important because it's not just some happy advantage for him, it's a circumstance that threads into his album like any other concept.

Here, Major Tom has to deal with death not only as a man, but as a celebrity. He even admits to us in Blackstar that everyone is watching him, expecting something golden. The fact that he actually does give us something golden is a testament to his skill and experience as a musician

But he's never happy about the celeb status. I think that's been a conflict he's had with all of his performing life, which is why it hits so hard in Blackstar
