Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor is the only piece of classical worth listening to.

after watching a BBC documentary on modern music I've been hearken to Pierre Boulez

not an argument
>>
Shostakovich's string quartet No. 8
>>
>>68564174
I wasn't proposing an argument. Just telling you all a fact. Prove me wrong though, I'd like to see you try.
>>
>>68564340
because music needs a context for it to be appreciated. even if you're right it's worthwhile listening to other pieces to come to this conclusion
>>
who /choir/ here?
>>
>>68564387
I mean, it doesn't really matter since it's a meme. I just genuinely think that it's the best thing to be put to paper.
>>
>>68564414
>meme
this word is meaningless on here
>>
Basic syllogism: Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor is the only piece of classical worth listening to. Only classical music is worth listening to. Therefore, Sonata no. 2 in B flat minor is the only piece of music worth listening to.
>>
>>68564458
Not exactly. Even some classical pieces are memes and little more.
>>
>>68565092
It's a nothing word an empty placeholder the curse of Chan
>>
>>68565180
No it just means something that's more famous than it needs to be, in particular when compared to other, often superior things

How old were you when you realized that the Grosse Fuge is the greatest musical composition of all time?

It isn't even Beethoven's best fugue.

What's his best fugue?

Haydn > Mozart
Who else noticed this, and who knows why?
>>
>>68566463
mozart's fame is entirely based on marketing
>>
>>68566704
Not quite - he was an excellent composer imo; he was just not for-gemmated at all, the times at when he lived were too filled-up in silly rules that he had to follow if he wanted to survive in the profeesion of a composer of court.
Haydn, on the other hand, was there in Vienna right in time - he had nothing more to compose, therefore he achieved complete perfection.
>>
>>68567011
>he had to follow if he wanted to survive in the profeesion of a composer of court.
Mozart didn't do this and was considered too complicated and bizarre by his contemporaries.
Haydn thought Mozart was better than him, and Haydn is right.
Mozart's final few symphonies are just as good if not better than any of the 100+ Haydn wrote and the mature quartets are easily better than Haydn's.
tl;dr fuck off poly.
>>
>>68567566
It went both ways. Mozart thought Haydn was better than him.

Personally I prefer Haydn's Quartets to Mozart's even though I love them both. Mozart wins for me on most other fields though, including symphonies
>>
>>68567566
>Mozart didn't do this and was considered too complicated and bizarre by his contemporaries.
Still not as complicated and bizarre as he trully wished to sound like.
>>
>>68567566
>considered too complicated and bizarre by his contemporaries

the idea that someone would purposely write boring elevator music would confuse anyone 2bh
>>
>>68567793
You see, Mozart was way ahead of his time: elevators didn't even exist yet.
>>
Boulez's Rituel is pretty good
>>
>>68567793
The entire genre of classical is elevator music, all classical is elevator music, as it's objectively inferior/cheaper music. It's our degenerate plebeian /mu/ that has tried to make us believe classical is an "essential" genre and that if you don't like it you must be "narrow-minded", a "redditor" who is "born in le right generation" and there's probably some racial element to it too. Classical music has no staying power. All of classical is just a neo-rockist sub-genre of traditional music, with a "urban" paint job. This music doesn't stand the test of time, it's a fad. That's why composers are discussed about like fashion. Image/fashion/numbers sold are actually considered when talking about them. Classical is just a really cheap/lazy form of music anyways. The majority of classical compositions are just stealing (MUHH "QUOTATIONS") another artist's music, looping it over a generic rhythm while someone "sings" over it. The "technical aspects" of classical are not hard at all. That's why there's 14 year old Asian girls on YouTube uploading themselves playing with ease and speed, dropping scales like it's nothing. But because they don't fit the image of a "composer", no one would take seriously. I've listened to it all from backpacker shit like Glass and John Adams to the "golden days" of Bach and Handel and Telemann to instrumental stuff like and DJ Shadow to the 1790s with Dittersdorf and Hummel to the CLT approved Mozart and Schubert to today like Wuorinen and Reich. All classical is elevator music. All of it. Stop spamming it. Either keep it contained into one threads or request a containment board. I'm sick of coming on /mu/ and seeing a million /classical/ threads (none of which are about music btw).

Stockhausen

He would most likely go the same way Brahms, Janacek and R. Strauss did, but very much further into weirdness and polyrythms.

What's the evidence for this?

I usually listen to a radio station that only plays classical music.
There is one piece I really enjoyed, it's a Spanish renaissance. Romance de Altisidora: "¡Oh tú, que estás en tu lecho!", by Anonymous

Exciting but stressful. Might listen to some Tavener or something to destress a bit tonight.

Fairly certain you can listen to BBC Radio 3 no matter where you are in the world.

But which one? I think mine is the conclusion of the gloria. The ending of credo is pretty incredible too (especially the speed Toscanini takes it) but the ending of gloria is just incredible

I feel sorry for you anon. Had to live in bumfuck nowhere in the Midwest for an internship and the closest thing I got was NPRs midnight classical.
