Reminds me that I should probably do a reveal for the blind-listening thread. Or at least a discussion thread or something
>>68552067
That's kinda how I started but I found myself enjoying the music. I don't really think there's much shame in admitting that, especially not in this environment. I mean from what I could gather so far literally everyone in /classical/ is an emotional cripple.
Why are violas needed in string ensembles?

As a moderate beginner, if I come up with something, even if derivative, should I write it down? I want to eventually compose (piano player here) and I don't know if I should wait until I'm much better to even attempt to write or if I should be jotting this stuff down just in case
>>68554129
You can always trash it later if you end up hating it, so you might as well.
>>68554129
write it down, you'll probably give up on this terrible idea anyway, might as well do something now
Literature is obviously a joke since Bob Dylan won it's most prestigious honor, so does that mean classical music is now the most important art form?
Most composers basically write pastiche stuff (intentionally or not) for a while before they find a 'voice' so just go for it
>>68554417
Nah, the Nobel's been a joke for more than a decade. The only good literary award is this one: http://www.greeninteger.com/america.cfm

I don't really listen to classical at all.
I was watching the new Berserk movies, and this has been stuck in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0ZhlVQ370c
Anyways, are there any operas recommended with this kind of vocal style/ aesthetic? I listened to the Carmina Burana a while back, which was pretty good.
If anything, just recommended classical with that style of vocals would be appreciated, or a point in the right direction.
Night on bald mountain while not really vocalized gives me the same kind of feeling.
>>68552067
I listen because I feel it's necessary to have an appreciation for and understanding of classical music to fully enjoy the music you truly love in the fullest way. You just start to hear things more fluidly and you listen more wider, if that makes sense. Never the less, I do enjoy quite a few composers after I've been listening for a while now, but I wouldn't say it's the genre that I dedicate my time to.

DUDDED THANKS

Glad to see symphony of psalms on there but lets be honest the only worthy performance is the westminster cathedral one.

Should've went for Kegel, pleb. It's only 3'36 as opposed to the usual 4'16+ and it nicely fits on 3 discs.
So I listened to Reich's Music for 18 Musicians.
I feel like I was just memed on for an hour.
