Let's talk noise. Harsh noise, power electronics, death industrial, HNW, etc. but preferably no noise rock or pop. What've you been listening to lately? What've you been making? What gear do you use?

Currently listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvMh9q6kfK4 from the Japanese noise thread. Good stuff, haven't listened to much Japanese free improv, EAI, etc.

Who /noise office/ here? I always turn down the volume when someone walks by, though I think my power level has been exposed already. How does /noise/ listen to noise?

This noise tape is pretty good honestly and listening to the real thing rn, though there's only one track for streaming.

Super nice portable rig! Although I personally prefer using less distortion and more modulator pedals like flangers, delays, and octavers. (pic related, my really badly put together setup)

Also, anyone going to Cheap Fest VII in Richmond, VA? I'm playing a set there.
>>
>>68546038
I've recently gotten into the genre, now exploring it's aspects and what is categorized as noise. Just finished a breakcore binge.
>>
https://soundcloud.com/dwngrd/t-montage-sugar-city-101716

Live set I played a few days ago.
>>
>>68546746
I do a lot of HNW stuff so the distortion helps with that a lot. Do you have a sample of what that gear sounds like in action?
>>68546560
Yeah sometimes during my office hours I'll listen to noise but if people are around I do headphones. I don't subject my workplace to noise, but I do that to my roommates. I have something playing on speakers almost constantly. These past several months noise has been almost the only thing I listen to.
>>
>>68546816
while I wouldn't really call breakcore a type of noise I do find the usage of noise in breakcore pretty interesting. It's almost like the idm version of noisecore in a way
>>
>>68546746
Which delays do you recommend?
>>
Does anyone have pictures of HNW setups?
>>
>>68547283
Oh no, I didn't imply that. Only that I think breakcore (some) is a good starting point that one could explore in order to venture in more abrassive genres.
>>
So, what new/recent noise releases would you rec, /noise/? I've been out of the loop in noise lately.
>>
>>68547864
Not same guy, but what should one check out if they're trying to go for chaotic hardcore/grindcore bands that use a lot of noise in their recordings?
>>
>>68547236
I'm this guy too:
>>68547032
https://soundcloud.com/dwngrd/t-montage-sugar-city-101716
>>
>>68547664
I'm too poor for anything good so I just use a Fab Delay or a Behringer Digital Delay. Or sometimes a Monotron Delay, that's useful for using on laptops or phones as a sound source anyways.
>>
Bumping for interest. Anyone have good (and possibly contemporary) power noise recommendations? I've gone through most of the essentials, and I need something that'll really blow my socks off. Favorites are super basic: converter, pan sonic, esplendor geometrico, emptyset, imminent starvation, iszoloscope, winterkalte
>>
>>68547845
Oh yeah I'd definitely agree there
>>68547864
I want this answered too. I've been very absorbed in older releases
>>
What's some relatively cheap and entry level gear if I want to get into makin noise?
>>
I've been listening to a lot of blackened punk lately, but not so much noise
>>68546057
I have a box for my thing too. A used drawer from a refrigerator. How are the cut-filters and the usb on the mixer? I used to have a small eurorack that I broke in a fit (for which I'm ultra sorry now, since it was perfect) I've never used that much effects for a classed chain, but try looping the fx in and out, so you can add feedback in each individual channel with the fx knob, same with the phones out.
Nice gear!
>>68546560
Takayanagi is Yoshihide's teacher. Sometimes it really shows. Listen to their individual albums as well. Abe's Winter Sessions are essential.
Improv especially is very important for it's interesting dynamics, which I think are also key in any kind of noise.
>>
Genuine question: is there such thing as melodic noise, or does that go against the aesthetic/ideology of noise music?
>>
>>68549227
Old shitty mixers and used distortion pedals. Maybe a guitar amp with basic reverb/delay capabilities. Otherwise you could always download some freeware vsts and modulate the shit out of samples of your own voice/field recordings and make some interesting noise on your computer.
>>
>>68549320
I guess Gnaw Their Tongues is the closet i've heard to melodic noise, but the genre GTT usually is given is Noise Black Metal.

Some iaalobo is melodic and yeah a lot of blackened noise has more rhythm and melody to it. I find I prefer there to be no melody though

I actually have yet to really fiddle with the USB feature but it's a decent little mixer. I theoretically could wire a couple more feedback loops but I'm satisfied with what I have for now and I kind of want to get some sort of less space consumptive patch cables if possible
>>
>>68547032
it would be cool to see like the video of this too. It looks like you've got some different equipment in that soundcloud pic (you said >>68546746 was you right?)

Been really digging Thirdorgan's latest release
>>
I've been releasing some noise recently on https://soundcloud.com/izetskal and I'm looking for some opinions.

My most recent album: https://soundcloud.com/izetskal/sets/isle-of-tumult
>>
Hey, is there any chart or something you guys could throw at me that could help me get into this genre?
It would be appreciated.

I have a mixer, drum machine and a cDJ table
>>

>>
>>68547864
It's been a shit year for noise honestly
new Puce Mary was shit
new Prurient was shit
new Helm was shit
new Koufar was shit
new FFH was shit

luckily that new Genocide Organ from way back in Jan was great
I still have a lot on my list to cross off from this year
>new Bizzare Uproar
>two new Climax Denial albums
>two new Controlled Bleeding albums
>new Noir Noir
>two new Con-Dom albums
>new Deterge
>new Tourette

so there's still hope, I might save all these for NBND if it happens
>>
The only HNW I know Is entry level. Things like Merzbow, Deathpile, Vomir, The rita, etc. Where do I advance from there?

Two?

>new puce mary and prurient shit
Wew not accurate at all, specially The Spiral imo is impeccable

Also dunno about any Bizarre Uproar new stuff but I been liking Xenophobic Ejaculation a lot more
>>
>>68553996
>new Koufar was shit
>new FFH was shit
fuckin lol
>>
Hey, newfriend here. What's the appeal of noise music?
>>
>>68554731
to feel edgy
>>
>>68554731
If a song has any rhythm or a melodic structure it eventually gets boring. I listen to noise because with noise that doesn't happen.
>>
>>68555055
Yes, that makes sense, but what do you enjoy about it?
>>
>>68555119
Can't really explain that.
It sounds nice, helps me focus. especially the harsher stuff
>>
>>68555119
It's cathartic
When I'm feeling down sometimes the only thing that makes me feel better is the sound of someone dropping all of their pots and pans in their kitchen, through a distortion pedal
>>
Nice to finally see a decent /noise/ thread again

>>68554731
I personally love the sheer density and visceral aspect of noise. Hearing interesting sounds weave in and around each other in a thick layer of fuzz.

I really enjoyed the new Puce Mary, Helm, FFH and Deterge honestly.
Also got to help support Deterge on one of his tours this summer. It was super cool and some girl almost died of a heroin overdose in the bathroom. Truly power electronics.
>>
who's hyped for the alessandro cortini/merzbow collab? I loved AC's work on A Bird's Eye View Into A Machiavellian World Of Secrecy and I'd love to see him do more noisey stuff
>>
>>68557199
Didn't even realize he was doing a collab with merzbow. It wasn't even my hype radar but it is now.
>>
>>68557199
it's hard to be hyped for anything really since the rips who surface are all shitty, and every time i have to spend a shitton of money on digital releases to get the good stuff

and what's even worse, european labels like old europa cafe, cold spring and urashima are CD only so you basically have to hope something surfaces eventually, or in my case spent 4 times the value of my country's currency plus shipping and wait 4 months to arrive in this shithole
>>
>>68554003
only vomir and the rita are HNW from that list. listen to werewolf jerusalem, the cherry point, dead body collection, opaque, alo girl, bug catcher, revelation of the dead girl, joli, gender sabotage, III, unusual affairs, dosis letalis, carrion black pit, shadowpiercer, and a raja's mesh men (OP pic)
>>

>>
>>68554003
I like a lot of the stuff on these labels:
https://harshnoisewall.bandcamp.com/
https://greymatternoise.bandcamp.com/
https://lostlightnoise.bandcamp.com/
>>
>>68558448
Merzbow, whorebutcher, and Deathpile aren't HNW? Then what separates HNW from what they do?
>>
>>68559298
>Then what separates HNW from what they do
the fact that it doesn't change/changes very little and very slowly for the entirety of the track
>>
>>68559339
Is that describing HNW?
>>
>>68559373
yeah
