The only guitar music I like is folk
>>

Why?
>>
>>68424424
Folk is a huge genre though, there is folk country, folk metal, old old folk, old folk, german folk, etc etc etc

and then there is Don Ross
>>
what does guitar music mean? like ? John Fahey? do you mean rock, punk and folk music? People here love that shit.

No

If you think it's boring you probably just have shit taste.

Guitar is more beholden to experimentation than almost any other instrument.

there's this place called /bleep/ on here that loves to jack it over the fact they don't like guitars and how they're inferior but besides that nah

you clearly haven't listened to much folk. Finger picking is some of the most complex styles out there

Exactly.

Traditional Country is a subgenre of Folk Music.
You are right about metal.

It's alright, but fails to reach the peaks of other kinds of music. My favorite kind of guitar music probably is Acoustic Blues.

Why does /mu/ like monotonous music? I've been here since 2012 and I still don't understand why you would choose to listen to guitar music that was so monotone over melodic guitar music.

depends on how you classify a peak. Do you mean complex song writing? some can easily compare to classical and jazz. If you mean popularity folk can easily beat all 3 you mention (I know popularity doesn't make good music). But there are plenty of iconic folk songs that people know far more than any classical song, let along Jazz or electronic. This is a genre that , depending on how you classify it, goes back 400 years
>>
>>68424678
I honestly heard maybe 3 electronic songs in my entire life that I thought were good, and /bleep/ only listens to generic edm shit, the /mu/ memes like autechre, aplex etc.. are quite boring as well, if there is anything of worth in electronic music, rec me it
>>
>>68424424
I like folk too, but holy shit man there's so many guitar genres

this

It's genuinely sad that Radiohead classifies as "guitar music" more so than guitar-centric bands/artists. I mean it's guitar music, I guess, but could /mu/ really not pick anything better?

Classical music and /mu/core buff reporting in.

I've unironically hated virtually every single display of electric guitar virtuosism I've ever heard.
Electric guitar is an incredible insturment to me until you try to play it ''right''.

>Electric guitar is an incredible insturment to me until you try to play it ''right''.
Elaborate?
>>
>>68424954
He's saying it's potential threshold for experimentation (which is imperceptibly enormous) is more compelling than what a guitar is technically capable of.
>>
>>68424763
>depends on how you classify a peak.
That's the problem with my way to classify a peak, it's based on the ability of the song to convey emotions, which in the end relies on myself and my perception.
>>68424839
I'll try to cover a few different electronic genres.

I really don't think so, but it may be acquired taste.

To be specific I'm extremely fond on the sound produced by a well played cello, piano, harpsichord, most classical instruments really.

But electric guitar? Fuck that. Play it in a virtuoso way and it won't show any trace of elegance. To me it sounds extremely vulgar, especially when no effects are applied.

To me its strenght resides in its absolute freedom in textures and timbre through pedals. You can't really play a beautiful Bach on a guitar, but you can still come out with Loveless.
>>
>>68425145

But anon, Classical and Jazz music IS guitar music.
>>
>>68425020
that's all some pretty metal shit there (though I skipped through to sample as much as I could). I love metal but that's not exactly saying electonic sticks above other genres, that's more putting it into one.

If I were to pick an electronic band it would be Shpongle. It's electronic world music I guess, but it grabs enough from world music and puts it into really trippy acid electo dance.

>>
>>68425155

Was there anything like Loveless before Loveless? No.
Is Loveless a strong enough album to justify its gimmicks? Yes.

To me that's enough to see Loveless as a necessary album, wethere I like it or not. It's a new, sincere, deliberate and carefully mastered point of view on what you can do with music, so I'm glad it's out there.

metalhead here and this is not true at all. Riffs are one way of writing music and not the entirety of the instrument. You are giving guitar players a bad name.

>>68425290

>>
>>68424489

>>
>>68425319
>8 years
ok, that's fine you are just growing into your instrument. You will probably never get tired of making riffs, I never have, but you will branch out and experiment with stuff beyond that. There is a lot to learn about the instrument, don't hide behind what you know
>>
piano/keyboard >>>>>>>>>>>>>> geetah

>>68425395

>>
>>68425455
you are relying on effects, that is only you should do late in composition. Think about the instrument and what you want to do first. Early on in playing I picked up a multi effect pedal but traded it back in very quickly because I realized it was more of a barrier to me at that stage. You need to learn to explore and write your instrument fully first, THEN add in effects and stuff. Honestly, learn a couple other instruments first and then go back to effects for your guitar. Every new instrument you learn will teach you stuff about your guitar.
>>
>>68425616
lmao in no way am I relying on effects, I've only been experimenting with them and trying cool sounds, 99% of my music is composed without any usage of effects
>>
>>68425642
ok good. Effects are usually best as an after thought. Hell, most of my best death/black metal riffs were written acoustic
>>
>>68426064
All my riffs are written on a clean sound, but I usually like to compose with guitar pro
>>
>>68426099
>guitar pro
cool. I tried that a few times but i always ended up fucking around and making shit that was impossible to play. So anything I wrote on there had to stay in there.

btw, this is what I mean by experimenting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnQvzsmlwlg

When I was learning I used to do weird stuff like this (not nearly this good of course), but for a song I took a hair comb to my guitar and when raked it hard for a cool effect (ended up busting a few strings on stage but that adds to it). experimenting is great. Hope you continue to do that.
>>
>>68424367

>>
>>68426352
yeah, that's really well done. Of course I prefer what I wrote, which was against a backdrop of my other bandmates, which made my chaos not really a lead but atmophere. It was about a minute of the song breaking down which is what made it fun.

glad to hear that someone made that idea sound precise though
