The bars are indeed basic technically but I find that they make a nice complement to the music, show off Kanye's personality just fine, and usually have some sort of subtext to them, which is nice. All of the Lights is a great example of this whole point.

Also, my theory on why MBDTF in particular is the only hip-hop album from one of the lauded GOATs to be classed as /mu/core is because the production is elaborate enough to cater to the usually rock-birthed musical sensibilities of the users of the board. Although it can't be denied that this is a great gateway album for hip-hop for those accustomed to listening to more instrumental-based music, so it's not like it doesn't deserve the spot.

This really had everything to become one of these albums that overwhelm the charts but it didn't even sell 2 M copies and did pretty okay but it had potential for having all the singles reach top 10-5,i think everyone thought it had a pretty disappointing performance imo. Even Notorious b.i.g. went diamond after a few years, yet this more accessible one is struggling to go double platinum after over an entire half decade go figure

MBDTF should've gone at least 5 times platinum by now, knowing who's behind the album, the hype of the time and etc. We all know that after Stronger (one of the biggest singles of late 00s) this was supposed to be kanye's big time. This is an entire album with many songs that sound a lot like stronger, yet didn't sell that well.
