Eh. Not quite. At this point you have to get into what it is to "stop". I would say I could stop such thoughts, iteratively, over time, if I wanted (though I obviously don't). But it's unclear if the mind is still on some level generating and working with them in the background, with the results either never reaching, or being thrown out by the conscious mind (suppression, or transference.) Gets into all the ways the mind offloads things it's tagged as unwanted or bad, which can be helpful or maladaptive, depending.

So to respond directly, I know from experience that I could remove the thoughts from my consciousness. But I don't know what that actually means, mechanically. In all likelihood they're still there in some capacity, unnoticed.

A lot of women, especially as teenagers, act as though they think they're "not hot" mainly as a mechanism to gauge interest, fish for compliments, etc, because some small core part of themselves feels like it's true despite massive evidence to the contrary from their environment. Sounds like how I worked on a number of stories, only spread out over ~1 year and a half. By the end I was 105 lbs (from 135) and psychologically deconstructed beyond basic functionality. It took another 2 years to rebuild. I never finished any of them either. I realized I wasn't capable, yet. There are some notes and sketches, but for the most part it's all stored in my head.

That's part of what I like about Grimes on a personal level, and probably what drew me to her music as well. Someone who could, and would, work like this, and go down many of the same avenues I did, is relateable, as is their ultimate output.
