>no best album of all time award

What is it precisely about Mangum's vocals that make the album more emotive than most others that try to be?

I feel like he cried a lot recording it

I liked them a lot because he's not exactly a GREAT singer but he's not terrible either, but his style of a sort of shout-singing made it feel more powerful.
It just sounded like he cared a lot about what he was singing out

Well I know that and agree but I guess I'm wondering what about his voice seems so sincere when it feels to me like so many other "emotional" albums can fall kind of flat or just seem sappy

I think it was the fact that he was straining to hit notes that he couldn't, on Two-Headed Boy Pt 1 it almost sounds like he's putting himself through physical pain in order to sing the song.
