genuine homophobia, racism and right-wing politics were actually not uncommon in early punk(to say nothing of the bootboys later on), especially in the US. the early 80s west coast scene in particular was well known for it distaste for fags.
the whole thing has just gotten so sanitized through countless revisionist documentaries and books that everyone thinks it was all a wonderful progressive collegiate utopia, that punk and conservatism began and ended with the ramones' distaste for communists and the bad brains' distaste for homosexuals. but they're wrong.

Yes it's true that early 80s west coast bands had some homophobia in their lyrics (I'm thinking Decendents and X) but surprisingly enough the early west coast scene were supporters of The Germs and we all know that Darby Crash was gay.
