It died off when it thoroughly expressed the musical ideas that it was capable of expressing. Theyre called microgenres for a reason.

it was just an aesthetic thing, seapunk music was just chiptune with 3d artworks.

seapunk aesthetic split up into two different genres: vaporwave (which become a meme) and health goth (which turned into zef/2000's revival, see yard666sale or yung lean's new style)

originally the artists zombelle and ultrademon were doing it then were given publicity by lil internet and pictureplane etc.

it caught on to the larger world a la rihanna some time later

vaporwave is still unfortunately alive, I'm saying it shouldn't be. Any interesting ideas from that movement were exhausted by 2013, with very few exceptions.

Eh, that's like saying any other genre that runs out of ideas should die, but modern country is still super popular for some reason.
