Why is film more accessible to normals than music?

You could start a conversation about Citizen Kane with any old guy off the street easily, but you immediately lose them if you mention The Velvet Underground. Why is this?

You can start a conversation about Citizen Kane as easily as you can start one about David Bowie. Starting a conversation about Juraj Herz's Spalovac Mrtvol will be just as hard as starting one about Majdanek Waltz.
>>
really? I doubt that. With that specific example I've found its the other way around.

However in general and just for starters, there are far fewer films released every week than albums so finding something in common is far more likely.
>>

again disagree from my experience. David Bowie would be far easier.
>>
>Why is this?
probably because your world view is based upon baseless hypothetical assumptions.
>>
david bowie is probably the most famous american movie ever
and also music is almost always more subjective than film
you can dislike the Velvet Undeground if you're into music, but you can't dislike Citizen Kane if you're into film in any way
Citizen Kane is also way more famous, so that's another thing
>>
>>68379154
um wtf are you talking about
its impossible to start a conversation about Andrei Tarkovsky films
music is the most pleb art form
citizen kane is literally the pop music of film
>>
>>68379154
you are retarded.

>David Bowie
>American
>Movie

You really must only watch mainstream films then. Try having a conversation with someone about Kiaorostami, Resnais or Parajanov and tell me later how many normies you got engaged.
>>
>>68379154
Because Citizen Kane is old people's Pulp Fiction: the "I've watched 10 movies, I'm such a film buff!"-favourite.
>>
>>68379889
You can't call yourself a real lover of film if you've never watched David Bowie
>>
>>68379900
You really must only hear mainstream music then. Try having a conversation with someone about Gubaidulina, Lachenmann or Dumitrescu and tell me later how many normies you got engaged.
>>

Doesn't apply to what I said. I never said music was accessible.
>>
>>68379861
My 2 cents, Citizen Kane's equivalent should be either a jazz album or a broadway play soundtrack

Its far less common to listen to music made in other countries than watching films made in other countries btw. Actually i dont even know people who listen to jap pop music but many watch anime and jap movies for example, very different mediums, i guess most think images > sounds tho

Citizen Kane is referenced in all media.

When's the last time you saw a VU reference in The Simpsons?
