I need recs. I didn't want to make this it's own thread or ask in a chart thread since I'd just get the same answers everytime. So recently my love for metal has resurged, as I've been generally exploring other genres of music for the past few years and I've hit a bit of a wall when it comes to finding new albums to listen to. Are there any underground gems or albums I need to hear? I'm mainly into black metal and a bit of death metal. I'm especially looking for fast, raw black metal in the vein of early Darkthrone and the Norwegian second wave. Thanks in advance, this is a chart of my favorite metal albums if that's any help.

I was listening to this (it's childish and a bit cringy if you're easily triggered don't watch it), and I realized that Cannibal Corpse really should turn down the distortion. Even as someone who has been listening to metal for a while I realized how much good stuff I missed.

In short, Cannibal Corpse is not that bad, even better without distortion.

Sidenote, kinda bothers me how overlooked FWTH is. Some people even say it's bad, while praising Obscura. I think it's Obscura pt.II (in a good way, as in "the band's second best").

About their older material, it's very, very solid OSDM with a hint of technicality. Somewhere between the swedish output from the early 90s and Cryptopsy's first album. Lovely, lovely.

The problem with FWTH is the band chemistry doesn't achieve the same pinnacle that their best records do, in my opinion. The drums just don't complement the rest of the instrumentation as well as Obscura, for example. It's good, but probably my 2nd to least favorite behind CD

Well, I genuinely love them. Seen them 4 times and they are spot-on live. I can understand why many people don't like their vocalist, but his range is impressive and I think he comes up with really catchy hooks. They may not be "metal enough" for some people, but I think their guitarwork is pretty outside the box sometimes and Matt Halpern is a beast of a drummer.

i generally don't give a fuck about lyrics with most bands, and being slightly hard of hearing even if it's a vocalist im really familliar with it's really hard for me to decipher what's being screamed/growled... So for me, it's all about the riffs and drumming... the vocals are just an added part of the atmosphere. If it's a band I'm really into or an album I truly love though I eventually read along on the lyrics while listening if they're available, but I never take the time to memorize all of them.

Tbh I will never memorize the lyrics. I have listened to megadeths rust in peace and kimb albums literally hundreds of times at the least, I only know about 80% of the lyrics after that many listens. Vocals are just another instrument for me, you could literally say anything you want and I probably wouldnt even notice.
