Rock as a whole is objectively more complicated, difficult to write/perform and nuanced than pop music.

Pop is great, but it's best for partying or doing mindless activities, which is fine but when it comes to how good music is it doesn't bode well.

Rock is better.

Give me any male fronted pop song, I can learn to play it and perform it within 15-20 minutes if not less. Not the same with rock.

I believe that both rock and pop are valid and equal forms of art and entertainment, but I also believe that the Japanese have perfected these fields far beyond the scope of Western civilization, and it's time we start integrating or else we become irrelevant.

I name this belief after J-Rock, J-Pop and J-Funk, and thusly call it J-ism.

Both extremes are bad. Pop music shouldn't be exempt from criticism and it's not racist or sexist to dislike Beyonce, but there isn't anything intrinsically more meaningful about rock music. At the same time, I think that top 40 pop music is inextricably linked to capitalist, corporatist influences, and unless there is a blossoming top 40 indie pop scene , I can't help but think that a lot of mainstream pop isn't an actual musical expression on the part of the artist, but rather a product on the part of the music industry.
